About this deal

The author tells some secrets of human psychology that many writers are reticent about. Instead of going into the rhetoric of just narrating a murder and chasing the slayer, she delves deep into the psyche of everyone involved in the investigation in an assiduous manner. She tells us how other people's experiences and descriptions can externally influence human memory. Additionally, in this one, I really enjoyed the past timeline following Aunt Angela and her friends. It was such a dynamic, yet messy, group and I was living for the drama. Even if you happen to continue this series until the end of time, I can assure you I will read each and every one of them. That's a promise. Wtf did I just read , I think my brain just committed suicide and there are still 2 more parts to go!! Only Nate gives me hope, he’s a writer suffering from creativity crisis, he is weird, a little nerd, but he was the most trustworthy one who always supported Stevie! He is my hero candidate!

over the four (!) books since that first promising start, those things have slowly faded, and they have been replaced with a series of nightmares. You may want to have a talk with your tween and ask them if they are Ok with the book. If they say anything you may want to take the book away. Besides that, this is a good book 10 year old's will enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

In this hotly anticipated trilogy finale, Johnson pulls out all the stops, filling the thrillingly nimble narrative with classic mystery conventions. A striking foray into an examination of what mysteries can ever truly be solved, and a satisfying send-off for a series that will be missed." — Booklist Jumping between past and present, Johnson’s novel is deliciously atmospheric, with a sprawling cast of complex suspects/potential victims, surprising twists, and a dash of romance. As in her Shades of London books, Johnson remains a master at combining jittery tension with sharp, laugh-out-loud observations.” — Publishers Weekly (starred review) WOWOWOW I loved this book so much!! A fantastic sequel, possibly even more enjoyable than the first installment, which was tough to beat. Maureen Johnson tells us the story of Ellingham Academy and the students studying there. Albert Ellingham was the founder of this private school. His wife and daughter were kidnapped shortly after the school was opened in the early part of the 20th century. Stevie Bell joins the school now in the present with the plan of solving the above case, which happened many years ago. The use of prolepsis might disconcert some readers, but the enigmatic way in which two conundrums unravel will provide you a ravishing experience.

If I hadn't seen all of the hype previously and set my expectations to something more realistic, perhaps I could've rounded up to three stars, or even possibly have given a nice shiny four stars. Despite my rating, I didn't actually hate reading this. Hell, I really enjoyed some portions. But it didn't make up for how disappointed I was by the end. The first half of the book felt like nothing was really happening, and that's because nothing was really happening. I did appreciate, however, the recap of the events from the first novel. It was a thorough recap, but never tedious. But something strange is happening. Truly Devious makes a surprise return, and death revisits Ellingham Academy. The past has crawled out of its grave. Someone has gotten away with murder.

this book reads like a middle grade book, with some cursing and mature themes. when you write a book for a specific age range, not only does the content have to cater to that age group, so does the writing. On the night Dottie Epstein is killed, Francis and Eddie secretly observe Albert and Miss Nelson—the housemistress of Minerva, where Francis lives—embracing in the gymnasium building, which is under construction. A worried Albert gives Miss Nelson a gun and tells her to protect herself and the students as all of them vacate the school. In a later chapter, it is revealed that Albert and Miss Nelson were having an affair.

Ellingham Academy is a famous private school in Vermont for the brightest thinkers, inventors, and artists. A suspenseful, attention-grabbing mystery with no clear solution. The versatile Johnson is no stranger to suspense, and this twisty thriller will leave plenty of readers anxious for more.” — BooklistWriting is a lot of sitting down... It's a lot of trying things out and screwing up... It's either amazing or it's the worst thing in the world. Sometimes it goes well, and it's all you think about, and then, it's gone. It's like you're taking a ride down a river really fast, and then all of a sudden, there's no water. You're just sitting in a raft, trying to push it along in the mud. And then you've become me." TRULY DEVIOUS is a really good/and exciting murder mystery that tweens can handle. I think ages 10-12 are perfect, at least not 14-- it is something tweens can handle. The book goes from past to present and its about Stevie who wants to solve a murder. Of course you would expect lots of gruesome, bloody violence but there's not much of it. Only some mild blood- - but nothing tweens can handle, and the violence is not explicit its pretty mild. Most of the ''violence'' is talking about murder, than showing/describing any dead body-- except in one scene where they find a dead body (not gruesome nor gory; limited injuries) Besides that, there is some language still not offensive to one and other just to show expression. Still, its not really a problem as tweens will be captivated by the amazing mystery and adventure the book has, so they wont focus much on the language (language is mostly infrequent). There's some mild romance of teens, but nothing to racy-- or raunchy-- tweens can handle as this is the age where they start to like each other/feel attracted and that's all the book has. Mild drinking is also frequent, but nothing to excess-- and no one gets heavily drunk/or dangerous, but do expect very mild drinking at parties which is completely normal. but it's not really that simple. stevie is a little uh... weird and she has to contend with the other strange characters in this boarding school as she tries to uncover what happened so many years ago. oh yeah, and one of her classmates happens to get murdered. no biggie. Overall, this just wasn’t for me. But please take my review with a grain of salt, because almost everyone I know loves and adores this story. I also think a big reason why this might not have been a hit for me is also because I had just read A Study in Charlotte and completely fallen in love with that contemporary murder mystery. Maybe I was subconsciously comparing the two? I don’t know, but I just didn’t love this one, friends, even though I really wish that I would have! The Truly Devious trilogy is a series based on kidnappings and murders. Come along for a thrilling and bone-chilling murder mystery thriller.
