The Galaxy S23 has an advantage over several other camera phones in its price range — it has a telephoto lens and devices like the iPhone 14 and Pixel 7 do not. That should mean sharper images, especially when you zoom for greater detail. The Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Vision Booster on Galaxy S23 and S23+ received a certification from VDE Germany for 100 percent Mobile Colour Volume in the DCI-P3 colour range, which means your images aren’t washed out and you’ll get unbelievably vivid colours regardless of differing levels of brightness. The display can achieve peak brightness of up to 1750 nits, improving the contrast between dark and light aspects of digital content for a more brilliant picture quality, with a 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio to make your mobile experience more immersive.
Software-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S23 comes with Android 13, accompanied by the latest version of Samsung’s One UI launcher (5.1). Generally speaking, there’s not much to complain about here, since Samsung takes more of a soft-touch approach than some other heavy-handed Android launchers we’ve looked at recently. As for the cameras, not much here has changed. The 50MP (f/1.8) main camera remains, alongside a 12MP (f/2.2) 120-degree ultrawide unit and a 10MP (f/2.4) 3x telephoto. However, the front-facing 12MP (f/2.2) selfie is now the same across all three models, up from the 10MP number in the previous version. The IP68 rating means your phone, in perfect conditions, can withstand water up to a depth of 1.5m for thirty minutes. However, we do not recommend using it while snorkelling or diving. Thankfully, the computation stuff behind the scenes got a bit of a bump thanks to the chip, so the photos and videos come out much more balanced and naturalistic this time around. 8K video recording is still possible, the only difference is that it now supports 30 FPS rather than 24 of last year's model. 4K video goes up to 60 FPS. 1080p mode, impressively, can shoot 240 FPS. And lastly, the 720p slow-mo mode is at an astounding 960 FPS. Shots are HDR10+ supported with videos recording sound in stereo. The front camera, also, can record at 4K-60.
