About this deal

The coffee side of things is dealt with via what's known as a brewing unit, this thing (usually removable so it can be cleaned) doses and tamps the basket in tandem with the grinder, and then ejects the used coffee grounds internally.

The portafilter is very similar to the Swan Retro but I can't find a compatible third-party portafilter. There's a company in Australia called Sunbeam, and Sunbeam launched a brand of very competitively priced machines in Australia that were clearly designed to compete with Breville, they look very similar and they often have similar names, “Barista Max Plus” sound familiar? Sunbeam is owned by… you guessed it, Newell Brands. Unwanted Food or Drink Products - Once supply conditions are broken, there are a number of factors outside of our control that can affect the quality of a product. Therefore perishable goods such as food and drink cannot be returned. The Nespresso Vertuo pop is the latest addition to the Vertuo range and is supremely easy to use with its simple, single-button control scheme. It works with Nespresso’s larger Vertuo capsules to brew four coffee sizes – espresso (40ml), double espresso (80ml), lungo (120ml) and mug (230ml). Alongside its variety of pods, the Pop comes in a large range of eye-catching colours including spicy red, pacific blue, aqua mint and mango yellow to name a few.

They have a 15 bar or sometimes even a 19 bar pump, as do most home espresso machines, but while more premium home espresso machines will have an overpressure valve (OPV) set to limit the pressure in the basket to 9 bars, the very cheap machines will either have no OPV, or they'll have the OPV set to something like 12, 13 or 14 bars – simply because this is the maximum pressure in the basket that works with pressurised baskets.I quite like the look of the machine, and I like how streamlined it is, if you're short on worktop space, this machine won't take up much of it. The updates they've made with the new 2023 model, or the “Evo” model which it's also being called, are: Nevertheless, this brings us to the mythical 20 bar espresso machines and their bewildering presence in the domestic market. If 15 bars of pressure is considered to be sufficient for ensuring that water pressure never goes below 9 bars from pump to head, why would one even need the extra 5 bars that a 20 bar espresso machine is technically capable of generating?

Of course, the price is astronomical. Anything over than a grand will always require a huge amount of consideration, but what you get in return is a real top-of-the-range machine. It combines everything people love about home brewing with the convenience of a smart machine that will take the guesswork out of every espresso you pull. If you just use the machine as it is out of the box, what I've found is that you get fairly inconsistent shots from one to the next, and some shots can be really, really poor. If you've started to develop your palate to any degree above the “normal” mainstream UK coffee drinker, then you may find that you're not consistently happy with the cup quality. If you're tossing up between a pod/capsule coffee machine and a manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic espresso machine, there are a few factors to consider. Most people choosing a machine like this, though, will probably have no interest in switching to a standard basket, especially given that this means investing in a capable grinder. If you're using this machine using pre-ground coffee, to be honest, I think you'll probably find that the resulting cappuccino or latte, or whatever your favourite milky is, will taste very similar to most one cup bean to cup machines. By the way, when I say “semi auto manual”, this means manual espresso machines with pumps, not fully manual espresso machines that work with levers and pistons to generate the pressure, in case you were wondering what the difference was.

It's a pressurized basket machine, you could potentially switch the basket for a traditional one. It's a 51mm basket so there are a number of baskets on the market, which basket will or won't fit this machine though, will depend on the shape of the lip/rim. If you've got one of these and you've found a basket that fits, please let me know in the comments. Our Sage Barista Touch Impress review has the full details.
