About this deal

For testing we're using the 5800X3D, though the results will be transferable for all Ryzen 5000 series processors, so if there's no performance difference between B350 and X570, for example, with the 5800X3D, the same will also be true for the Ryzen 5 5600. The 5800X3D does not have "Pro" in the name but is not an APU (it doesn't have integrated graphics), so it does not fall into this category. The Watch Dogs: Legion performance improvement is mighty impressive. Here the 5800X3D was 33% faster than the 5800X when using the same DDR4-3200 memory. So as you may have guessed, the “extreme” variants have better features and, consequently, heftier price tags, with X670E being the top-of-the-line chipset. The short form is that both the E variants have the same number of PCIe 5.0 lanes, but B650E has a decrease in the number of maximum possible PCIe 4.0 lanes. The rest of the I/O connectivity also varies with each chipset, with B650 (and B650E) having half the number of USB 3.2, USB 3.1, and SATA ports.

The Ryzen 7 7700X also beats out the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in our Adobe Premiere benchmark – by 28.2%, to be exact. Adobe Photoshop 2022 Adobe Photoshop 2021 Now at 4K the game starts to become more GPU bound and as a result CPU and memory performance is less of a concern. Still the 7600X was 9% faster using DDR5-6000 opposed to 5200 or a rather hefty 22% faster if we look at the 1% lows. Based on our evaluation of using AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU for gaming, you can expect excellent game performance with a high-performance CPU cooler. Ultimately it's up to motherboard manufacturers to roll out these updates for their various AM4 products, but it looks like all are on board and we have models from MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte to try out that have public access to AGESA 1.2.0.7. For updating each board, we installed a Ryzen 5 1600 as the original BIOS on the older B350 and X370 boards would recognize that CPU, then flashed to the latest BIOS, removed the R5 1600 and installed the 5800X3D.AMD says that Ryzen 5000 support will vary by vendor, as will the timeline for new BIOS revisions. However, they should all be available now. Notably, these BIOS revisions will also include the fix for AMD’s fTPM stuttering issues. Assuming you have a capable GPU, and if you are targeting very high FPS gaming at lower quality settings, perhaps for competitive shooters, then Ryzen 5 3600 owners stand to gain a lot of extra performance by upgrading to the 5800X3D. But that's like the perfect scenario for that upgrade.

The 500 series chipset technically supports WiFi 6E since it expands on the same band as WiFi 6, but only a select few motherboards provide direct WiFi 6E support on that chipset. The AM5 platform brings official support for WiFi 6E across all chipsets. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction is also maxed out with the RTX 3090 Ti at 1080p using the second highest quality preset with these high-end CPUs. There is a little wiggle room as the 5800X3D proves, along with the 12900KS, but we're talking about a negligible 6% improvement from 311 fps to 329 fps. AMD's marketing claim is that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is, on average, 15% faster than the Ryzen 9 5900X. The 3D V-Cache doesn't improve performance in all games, so this will vary, but we recorded a 21% increase over the 5900X at 1080p in our test suite, which is incredibly impressive. Moving on to the 5800X3D we see that this CPU is heavily GPU bound and as a result memory performance isn't an issue here, and the same is also true when using the 5600X as CL14 only afforded that configuration and extra frame or two.We feel that the Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM is an excellent addition to any value gaming rig or workstation, especially when paired with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU. Its voltage of 1.35 volts is around average for most DDR4 RAM. We saw that the high-quality aluminum heatsinks provide superior thermal management while giving the modules a sleek and premium appearance, and they do not interfere with the CPU cooler. Moreover, the RAM is optimized for AMD DDR4 motherboards, ensuring a smooth and dependable experience for users who want the best performance from their AMD processors. For comparing power consumption using the RTX 3090 Ti, we've gone and tested the 5800X3D and 12900K in three games: Cyberpunk 2077, Far Cry 6 and Hitman 3, all using DDR4-3200 for both CPUs. For the Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 7 5800X3D we'll be using the MSI MPG X570S Carbon Max Wi-Fi motherboard running the latest BIOS. This data will be representative for all supporting AM4 motherboards. The memory configurations include 32GB of dual-rank DDR4-3600 CL14 and a 32GB single-rank DDR4-3600 CL16 configuration. The default memory configuration was DDR4-3200 CL14 dual-rank, but we've also included some configurations using G.Skill's DDR4-4000 CL16 memory set to 3800 CL16, as the highest FCLK our 5800X3D sample can handle without memory errors is 1900MHz and this is the norm for all quality Zen 3 chips. For Intel processors we've also added a DDR5-6400 CL32 memory configuration. Both platforms were tested with ReSizable BAR enabled and Windows 11. Let's now get into it. Application Benchmarks
