About this deal

This was blind buy on a whim at TJ Maxx. It has green floral opening with big lily of the valley and bit of a rose and tuberose. Its VERY floral, very what I would call "classic floral", green but yet has a bit of spice- white sundress, garden, wearing big hat, tea time, those are sort of images that I get. Its not what I usually go for but i do like it quite a bit. I don't find it dated even though its 25 years old and can be found very cheap. Arden still sells this scent because its THAT popular for a reason. I think Gabrielle Essense by Chanel has sort of same vibe even though its not same scent but I have worn them together and it works well and they compliment each other(I tend to layers 2 or 3 scents all the time) Thank you for recommending 5th Avenue! I think this is a new lighter perfume that may have good longevity - about 8 hours or so. So I don't really need sky-scraper 125ml bottle of 5th Avenue. In fact I'm sure I don't! Still, it's a great fragrance at a bargain price and I couldn't resist. Feel like it's impossible to accurately write about this, as it's the first real perfume I ever owned. My mother was always a little wary of letting us get too into the things she perceived as being frivolous or 'girly,' so the visit to the discount perfume outlet was like getting into the cave of forbidden wonders. At fourteen, I knew nothing about perfume, and burnt my nose out almost instantaneously - 5th Ave might have been the one I liked best, or it might just have been the only one I could remember the name of when my mother asked.

Hello dears ! Here's my long overdue comment on one of my favorite fragrances from Elizabeth Arden - a perfume and cosmetics brand that seems down-to-earth and rather reserved compared to other brands. Some of the fragrances' prices are ridiculously low. One reason, perhaps, why they don't get nearly as much reputation as they deserve. I think that this is a way to sell the fragrances below value. Around 40 seconds in, there's a brief linden blossom reprieve, and it smells airy and sweet. The lilac lingers a bit to give this scent a little more substance, but the scent is clearly not lilac anymore. If someone likes perfume, but prefers more of a gentle essence of perfume -- leaning towards a body spray or light EDT - this one is perfect. I'm really starting to like 5th Avenue! You are so RIGHT about this one! AND - it is priced so reasonable! Cassis is not mentioned in the list of ingredients, so it could just be something that is taking on a smell that is similar to the note of cassis. (This smells like ivy, a strange green note with my chemistry). Avenue is one of the famous perfume "pillars" of Elizabeth Arden. Launched in 1996, the scent is inspired by "the most famous street in the world, the embodiment of wealth, the imagination that has turned into life." The fragrance of the 5th Avenue is designed for women of style, those who are smart, successful and elegant and who choose luxury in their everyday life. Composed by Ann Gottlieb, the floral core of linden, lilac, lily of the valley, magnolia and jasmine make up the fragrant bouquet of the popular Arden's fragrance. Also signed by perfumer Ann Gottlieb, these are different but there is a bit of 5th Avenue in here. SB leans more green-garden florals with green notes more forward, along the lines of Jardins de Bagatelle Guerlain. Performance is roughly equivalent in these two. Is 5th Avenue feminine? Unquestionably so. Is it floral & complex? Yes, indeed - every flower in the world is on the guest list here and everyone brought along a friend. Rose is escorted by vanilla, Lily's guest is clove, Iris invited sandalwood, Jasmine waltzed in with nutmeg, Violet sneaked in with Amber and so on. In fact, the ballroom feels quite overcrowded, with not a wallflower around who's sitting out the dance. Avenue reminds me of a mother, not because it’s a particularly motherly scent, and it doesn’t remind me of my own mother either, but I’m pretty sure my friend’s mum wore this when it came out in the 90s. I would’ve been around 12 and it’s strongly ingrained in my memory to associate this with someone’s mum. It is not however an ‘old lady scent’. In fact I think it’s quite fresh and young. It smells very classy and sophisticated, like others have pointed out, but in an elegant sophisticated woman sense who could be any age. I suppose for very young people this could feel somewhat on the mature side, due to it being so sophisticated and elegant, in that sense it does have ‘grown-up’ vibes. But being grownup doesn’t automatically make one old (unless you’re 5, then it’s perfectly legitimate to call anyone over the age of 12 old).

Versatile, clean, and classy. Opening is citrusy with a watery melon scent, dries to lilac & white florals. Floral, white floral, somewhat soapy, and slightly green. I love lilac in fragrances, it's one of my favorite flowers. Blending the lilac note with white florals makes for a very fresh, elegant, gentle, feminine fragrance. The second fragrance I tested again today was Tiffany. My little daughter accompanied me and I gave her both hands to sniff. Which one's better? The one that smells like good flowers, the other one's angry. The good flowers were My 5th Avenue. For a green floral, it has better lasting power than most but still not all that great. Maybe its just me because my skin tends to eat up perfume. I can see this scent being worn all year around, all occasions although I don't see this as sexy scent, its very elegant and classic. It stays for long, but very close to my skin. Which is perfect for me in a day wear scent. I don't want to be the type of girl who leaves a chemtrail behind. I have high sensitivity, so it would actually keep bothering me during the day. Some can say it's boring, but let me assure you, you will stand out of the crowd of edible fruity floral scents. I feel elegant and even old-fashioned in it, even if I'm in my adidas sweatpants. I think it's for a woman who doesn't try to impress every person she meets, but can't be bothered to be a non-conformist either (it's me lol). I think it's a very polite scent if you work with people. This is how Chanel Chance flank-o-rama should smell imo. This is one of those perfumes where it is so light that you forget that you have it on, then move - catch a whiff of this -- and it is just simply AMAZING ON! This is classically refined and smells like a high end finely milled soap. This is clean, attractive, a definite nod towards what a career woman would wear if they were on their way up in the corporate world or any office environment, a CEO could definitely wear this, this is also a perfume that is just as at home in the board room as at top restaurants in the city -- or country. This perfume is perfect for day wear at the office -- or could also be a perfume that you wear for any social activity. This is classically elegant, understated, refined, feminine, attractive without being overtly sexy. This is well blended, this is a perfume that feels comfortable in its own skin, it isn't forcing anything or trying too hard - but just comes across as pulled together and like "You Got This"!

The color of the spray nozzle. Older versions usually have gold spray nozzles that match the cap and collar of the bottle. At first, I thought maybe just tester bottles had the white atomizer but some of the 5th Avenue flankers and perfumes like Pleasures also have altered, white nozzles. I believe it’s after Revlon bought EA that they started doing this so it does help to narrow the search. It's probably not going to get all that many comments...unless you're absolutely lashing it on and you happen to be one of those very few people for whom the potion in question, just totally fits your personality. None of this is me trying to criticise this fragrance. It's more that it's of a time when these kinds of fragrances were more modern that other stuff that was on offer. That doesn't make it an old-fashioned fragrance exactly, but it's no longer anything special that we haven't smelled a bunch of times before. Straight from the get go, you get a burst of freshness with the watery florals, citrus, and white florals. It immediately reminded me of Boucheron Quatre, one of my favourite perfumes. It's not a dupe, but it's very similar in the burst of fresh florals and citrus that evoke sunshine, happiness and effervescence. In fact I sprayed Quatre on my other wrist and while Quatre is just a titch more green there is a remarkable similarity. MAGNOLIA Cultivation. With a strand of pearls and a classic six on Manhattan's upper east side, this is the scent I could imagine Charlotte form Sex in the City wearing. Signed by perfumer Ann Gottlieb, this beauty was love at first scent for me when it was released. Opens with a floral burst of magnolia represented by lily of the valley, linden blossom and lilac with citrus & green touches, that continues into a floral heart, shedding its citrus touches and taking on fluffy, light, fresh, rosy, powdery, whipped & velvety qualities, all resting on a musky, vanillic amber-woody base . On the skin I get a vanillic, soapy, perfume-y vibe, and in the air I get magnolia, rose, lilac & faint tuberose. Overall this reads as an magnolia scent to my nose. This has been reformulated, but in the air it smells the same to me, with the only difference I can detect being greener and soapier on the skin during the opening. On my skin this is slightly above average performance with a elegant, classic scent profile. I mostly get the light and airy lily of the valley, the honeyish lilac, the bubblegummy tuberose, the vibrant linden blossom, the juicy and fruity peach and the spicy carnation. I get faint whiffs of the spicy nutmeg, buttery ylang ylang and citrusy magnolia, but they come and go throughout this scent's journey. I didn't get as much vanilla as I would have liked to in the drydown and I feel like the musk, iris and the violet made things too powdery and slightly cloying. It felt like a very bottom-heavy fragrance. I would have liked more linden blossom in this perfume too.I should note that I'm a big LOTV fan, but I dont smell it here. LOTV smells light blue, this is all yellow. I wish that the juice was clear (or the bottle was opaque) just so I could know for certain that I'm not being influenced by its colour. When I wrote my commi to Elizabeth Arden's "5th Avenue" (EDP) a short time ago, I wrote that a lovely perfume company had asked me to comment on this fragrance. Unfortunately I had mixed up the scents, because she never said 5th Avenue EDP, but the scent "My Fifth Avenue", so this scent here. And when I published the commi for 5th Avenue, she was really bitching at me, so I have to correct the mistake! This lightens up as the perfume wears on the skin, but the newer formula that I tried at Macy's (and wrote the first part of the review on) is much better with my chemistry. The sparkling fresh floral scent of My Fifth Avenue evokes the energy of the most famous street in the world, featuring crisp citrus notes for a surprise burst of freshness complemented by an embrace of feminine florals. The notes evolve into the warmth and emotion of musk and woods, reflecting a woman’s strength and resilience, imparting the scent of success. There were moments in the wear of 5th Ave where it reminds me of a lighter day wear/office friendly version of Gabrielle Essence by Channel (another yellow/white floral perfume). 5th Avenue has less silage, is more classic, softer, more gentle version of Gabrielle Essence. These two are different enough where you could have both in your collection, particularly if you really like these floral notes in perfumes. If you like one, you will probably like the other... they have enough commonalities where you should try both.
