About this deal

Now she is flourishing. Beautiful feathers, emaculate claws, curtesy of the parlour, and such a witty personality. Her beak is still mishapen but she can still eat and The Humans make sure she gets her share.

Helen Nicoll worked with Jan Pienkowski for over forty years, first at the BBC and then on the Meg and Mog stories. She owned and ran the audio company Cover to Cover for many years. Helen lived in Marlborough, Wiltshire. She died on September 30, 2012.Well what a few weeks we have had here. It started last weekend when the humans disappeared off for the afternoon. I thought it was a bit weird as they had shut The Run and Old Coop area up and have never done this before. The Humans had to come out and put them into the coop and bed. The next day there was no sign of the New Arrival. Charlie Cokerel spent nearly 2 hours standing outside their run Cokerdooling to get them up and out. He was actually very sweet coaxing them out and then walking round their run until they came out. Young readers have loved following Meg and Mog’s amusing adventures for over 40 years. Meg the witch, along with Mog her long-suffering cat and their friend Owl, feature in 18 books written by author Helen Nicoll and award-winning illustrator Jan Pienkowski. Meg and Mog have also graced the small screen on Tinypop, in a series featuring the voices of Alan Bennett as Owl, Fay Ripley as Meg and Phil Cornwell as Mog, and even the stage.

Helen Nicoll was born in Natland, Westmorland, in 1937. She was educated at schools in Bristol; Dartington Hall, Devon; and Froebel Education Institute, London. Helen Nicoll married Robert Kime in 1970 and they have one daughter and one son. I tried so hard not to stare at her but her crest was so big. Having said that it's not as big as one of the other girls called MeShell, she really does have the biggest crest I have ever seen. The humans have tried to keep us occupied, we have new logs, corn on strings and some CD's we can play. My favourite is one with S Club 7 written on, it makes a great sound when I place my beak on it and spin it round. The other girls have made up a dance to it and this passes the time. We have also noticed the big dog has one of her legs in a plaster cast, apparently she got injured and has had to have a piece of metal put into her leg. Doesn't seem to have had an effect on her barking though. Make a spell draw and write templates– Children can use these templates to make their very own spell. There are a variety of templates with varying levels of writing support. There is also a draw only template for the littlest spell makers.

Helen Nicoll was a television producer with the BBC for many years. It was here, as Producer of the children's educational series WATCH, that she first met Jan Pienkowski. After working together for four years, they decided it was time to preserve their creativity in book form for future generations of children to enjoy. The result is the immensely popular MEG AND MOG series. The Story: Meg casts a spell to make eggs for supper. The spell doesn’t go as planned, the eggs are too big and hard to eat. In the middle of the night three dinosaurs hatch. Meg’s spell to save them from being eaten by the Tyrannosaurus causes all three dinosaurs to shrink. We have seen many things here in The Garden, some happy and some sad. We have had an influx of adolescents. They hang around the rough grass end of The Garden chatting and wondering what on earth the world is all about. We also miss The Humans with the white hair who stayed with us for a while. It was lovely having them here and they gave us double the amount of treats we normally have.

Jan Pienkowski is a celebrated illustrator of children's books. He has won the Greenaway Medal twice - for his illustration of Joan Aiken's The Kingdom Under the Sea and for Haunted House. Jan lives in London. Mog and Owl are hungry, so Meg makes a spell. It goes wrong and they all go to bed without any supper, but Mog and Owl are still hungry... Activities are specifically designed to allow for differentiation of ability and context and come complete with COMPREHENSIVE ACTIVITY SUGGESTIONS. Meg’s Eggs has a very simple, easy to read text which is great for beginner readers. I like the way that speech bubbles move the story along and enhance the simple sentences. The rhyming spells add to the humour and I love the use of onomatopoeia. The illustrations on the double spreads are colourful, bold and humorous and will appeal to toddlers who will enjoy the board book version. My daughter likes copying the simple pictures, she especially likes drawing Owl. The weather has been getting gradually colder here in The Garden and on several mornings I have seen the human who looks like Julia Roberts, defrosting the water. We are nice and warm in our coop and have the new Coop Central Heating, which means we can control the temperature from wherever we are in The Garden.
