Being lazy about waiting for the chipping medium to dry, since the medium behaves weirdly through the airbrush I find it tends to pool occasionally resulting in areas that take longer to dry. You can exploit this by just not quite letting it dry in those spots as it will give a good impression of a larger patch of paint falling off after a bit of gentle rubbing with a damp brush. This week’s Hammer of Math heads outside of the hives and examines exactly how difficult it really is to kill these vehicles. Set up one model from that unit within 1" of the centre of that ambush marker, wholly within your deployment zone and more than 9" away from any enemy models. Then remove that ambush marker.

Other Ridgerunners carry flare launchers, usually employed for signalling and coordinating ambushes and outflanking manoeuvres -- though at a pinch they can also level a smokescreen to hide the vehicle's advance.Set up the remaining models in that unit wholly within 6" of the first model, wholly within your deployment zone and more than 9" away from any enemy models. With the latest set of codices now on the shelves, it’s time to start breaking down what units and options are going to be right for your list!

When you select a PSYKER unit to manifest psychic powers, you select one psychic power that unit knows and attempt to manifest it. With the exception of Smite, you cannot attempt to manifest the same psychic power more than once in the same battle round, even with different PSYKER units. The same PSYKER unit cannot attempt to manifest Smite more than once during the same battle round. To manifest the psychic power, you must first pass a Psychic test. The opposing player can then select one of their PSYKER units that is within 24" of the PSYKER unit attempting to manifest the power and attempt to deny that power before its effects are resolved by passing a Deny the Witch test. As we can see, the distribution of results for the AML is very different from the HML in that the distribution is less continuous due to the flat damage where we only get damage in multiples of two thanks to the Redemptor’s -1 to damage. This requires both sets of bonuses to even beat the unbuffed HML, which is unfortunate. I love depending on consistency when I can, but the ability for the HML to potentially swing big allows them to outperform the AMLs more often than not against a Redemptor or similar target. For reference below is the probability to kill the Redemptor in one turn with this setup. Chance to Kill Redemptor in One TurnGoing from a 175 credit heavy chassis to a 280 credit Ridgehauler with a container requires a lot. You need multiple Toughness boosts (+35 credits assuming increasing just the front is the equivalent of 10 credits), 2 more HP (+40 credits), an extra hardpoint (+40 credits) and an extra 7 firing arcs (+105 credits), 2″ more movement (+20 credits), +1 to Handling (+10 credits), transport bed (+15 credits), a Weapons Stash (+20 credits, although the upgrade can be exhausted), and pay whatever the equivalent of boosting a Save will be (assuming +25 credits here). That’s roughly a 485 credit total, meaning the Ridgehauler has an absolutely insane 205 credit discount. Not to mention it makes you money while giving you the option to upgrade it further. Many Ridgerunner crews include a spotter equipped with magnoculars, whose task it is to identify and relay enemy troop movements and weak points in the opposition's defence. Let’s start out with targeting the Redemptor: toughness 7, 3+ save with -1 damage. For both weapons we will examine the unbuffed baseline, +1 to hit via Crossfire, and +1 to hit with +1 to wound with Crossfire plus Exposed bonuses.

Another layer, adding more Pallid Wych Flesh focussed on the sharpest edges and most raised surfaces. It also comes with a host of other options and optional wargear. With the Genestealer Cult codex fresh on the scene, one of my favorite units in the codex has gotten more interesting: The Ridgerunner! It has two juicy options: the Heavy Mining Laser (HML) and the Achilles Missile Launcher (AML). The question that comes to mind once you read their stats is:While playing test games is the best way to understand your options, it’s hard to get in enough games to understand all the variables at play and arrive at a reasonable set of expectations. If a unit set up underground has any abilities that are used in your Command phase (e.g. Meticulous Planner), then the first time that unit is set up on the battlefield, it can use any or all of those abilities as if it were your Command phase. The solution was to take a pressmold of a Zone Mortalis tile and make my own base topper. I started with two part silicone putty. This size of mold will use a decent chunk of a box, but the mold should hold up for quite a while! Press the putty into the surface and wait about 90 minutes to demold something this size. AMLs appear to perform better than the HML against elite infantry at first glance. The consistency and similar ability to wound as the HML, means the AML performs better at each stage of different buffs. This is especially clear, when you consider the Crossfire buff comparison, where the HML has a dominating chance to do nothing whereby the AML has the best chance to kill one model. The consistency of damage will help prevent non-optimal damage from being applied, allowing the AHM to more consistently kill at least one model. However, due to the inability of the AHM to put out anymore than just 2 damage per shot, it is virtually incapable of killing a unit of three Blightlord Terminators in one turn. For reference below is the probability of killing a three man squad of blightlord terminators in one turn. Chance to Kill 3 Blightlord Terminators in One Turn Start by painting the main body of the Achilles Ridgerunner using Leadbelcher, a metallic paint that gives it a strong framework.Where things get hilarious is that you can build it up even more. For 50 credits you can get an armoured container which adds two hardpoints with all-around firing arcs, counts as a Ammo Cache that cannot be exhausted, and it provides you with D3x10 credits if the vehicle survives the mission. There’s also a 30 credit promethium tank option which gives you D6x10 credits if it survives and lets every Flame weapon within 3″ become Plentiful instead of Scarce, but it can also explode and do fun things if it’s hit by a particularly hard shot. Players can take things even further by adding up to 4 Ridgehauler trailers at 130 credits each which can also carry a container or tank.
