These remixes were originally intended to be released on a Mad Professor Mezzanine remix album – yet in the end, only a few of his remixes were issued as single b-sides. I actually missed out on the earlier releases, because I was too deep into hip-hop in the early nineties and I did not consider massive attack's sound to be hip-hop enough!

With 'Mezzanine', however, the party had ended; revisiting the murky soundscapes so favoured by former partner and fellow Bristolian Tricky, the comeback single 'Rising Son' muttering edgily about "cheap beer filled with crocodile tears", over the deepest bass. Even if you own the original version already, it's well worth picking up this special edition just for that alone. To put it simply, it's brilliant, and arguably remains the Bristol-based outfit's finest work to date (though some would argue that the dark and paranoid Mezzanine is possibly better). As per the original release, the artwork is by Hingston studios who have worked with Robert Del Naja from the band.

Every record is shipped in original factory-applied shrink wrap and has never been touched by human hands.

Review: Given Massive Attack's background, it was almost inevitable that they'd release a dub overhaul of one of their albums at one point. We also run our own record label, we host a show on Solar radio and produce mixes of our favourite sounds on Mixcloud. Never seen a copy of the original pressing which is not off-centre on one side of the first disc and often the second as well. These radical re-workings by Mad Professor originally created in 1998 include Teardrop, Angel and Inertia Creeps as well as rarities Wire and Superpredators.

While the resultant set, released in 1994, does quite hit the same dizzying heights, it remains a thoroughly great album. But I bought this one in late July of the year 2023 and received an amazingly good sounding set of records that aren't cut too loud but still using the space of one disc's side for two to three tunes, making them sound like a 12" 45.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. The cds are black plastic, which initially worried me, but fortunately my old Technics CD player plays both fine. The 1998 album has been remastered (by Tim Young at Metropolis) and comes with an album of previously unreleased dub mixes by the Mad Professor. This third album signalled a change in sonic direction that played more explicitly on the darkness and tension that was always an undercurrent of their much loved debut Blue Lines and successor Protection. It's packed with highlights, from the spaced-out, dub-house rework of "Spying Glass" ("I Spy"), to the ricocheting percussion hits and twinkling pianos of "Weather Storm (Cool Monsoon)", and creepy, delay-laden string surges of "Eternal Feedback (Sly)".

Mezzanine is the third studio album by English electronic music group Massive Attack, released in April 1998. The band, currently consisting of Robert Del Naja, Tricky, and Daddy G, was originally formed with the inclusion of Andrew Vowles. We are available to book for live shows and events, as well as bespoke licensed music for videos, commercials, TV, film and more. The original featured a band photo, which is noticeably absent on this reissue, and overall the basic matt card used, with some template card points still visible/feel-able on the edges) has left me a little underwhelmed.
