About this deal

The primary antagonists are two businessmen named Hakobyan and Katrakis, one Armenian and the other Greek, who have known each other for more than 50 years. When I read the book and found out that Reyes was going on the mission to kill the drug lord, I was really disappointed. Because the Oregon's crew have just stumbled on the Pipeline - a vast criminal network stretching across the globe. Brooks is a pro at building suspense even if it plays out in some rather spectacularly yucky episodes, one involving a short spear that takes its name from “the sucking sound of pulling it out of the dead man’s heart and lungs. If this book had been part of another series, I would have given it three stars, but I expect better form any works associated with the Clive Cussler name.

In addition, you knew that all the corners the hero found himself in, were going to be overcome no matter the odds. I'll read the next book because I like the series, but if I hadn't already been invested in Juan and the gang, I wouldn't read any further. The atmosphere of the novel, set mostly on this wild Greek island, echoes strongly the classical tragedies of Greece. Indeed, the novel does double duty as a survival manual, packed full of good advice—for instance, try not to get wounded, for “injury turns you from a giver to a taker. Their Pipeline is a conduit for transporting arms, munitions, and meth, making it “the envy of the criminal world. This will likely be my last Oregon Files read, which is a depressing thought because it really has been a fantastic ride.

All the usual Oregon prerequisites are here - over the top action scenes, multiple countries, and sinister billionaire bad guys with world destruction plots. Here we have a crew member blinded in an attack, but I honestly didn't even care because I knew by the end of the book - just like Linda's deafness and Murph's paralysis in earlier books - that they'd be back to normal with no physical or psychological damage.I've been an Oregon fan for a while so I was excited to have an opportunity through NetGalley to receive an a free advanced copy of Hellburner to review. There's nothing particularly memorable about the villains, and I've come to realize nothing is ever going to change for the Oregon crew. It marvels me that this state of art technology ship has an outer shell of an old, rusty, filthy, and SMELLY tramp steamer.

Maybe, but the sasquatches whom the volcano displaced contributed to the statistics, too, if only out of self-defense. With millions of innocent civilians hanging in the balance, the Oregon’s crew must unravel a tangle of drug-smuggling routes and international conspiracies spanning from the Aegean Sea to the Indian Ocean, putting their lives on the line to find the weapon before its countdown hits zero. The novel starts off with a murder, and with seven people trapped on an isolated Greek island lashed by a "wild, unpredictable Greek wind.A volcanic eruption is quite another, for, as the journalist who does a framing voice-over narration for Brooks’ latest puts it, when Mount Rainier popped its cork, “it was the psychological aspect, the hyperbole-fueled hysteria that had ended up killing the most people. It is not included in promotions available to our main range products, as stated in our terms of service. While the evildoer Hakobyan will “do business with the Devil himself if it turned a profit,” Cabrillo will never do anything against American interests. Juan Cabrillo is now on the same level as Superman - indestructible and the ONLY one that can save the world.

A group that sits with its finger on the trigger of a torpedo so deadly it could level entire cities. When the Oregon team uncover a ship full of contraband, smuggling turns out to be the tip of a very deep (and dark) iceberg. The narrator, soon established as Elliot Chase, then zooms out to address the reader directly, introducing the players—most importantly movie star Lana Farrar. Now, I don't know about you, but when I read the blurb of this book and saw a member of the Corporation was going to die, my attention was caught. Although a good read, I could tell this was not a book written by Cussler and I had to downgrade to 4 stars.
