From Chuck D bearing his heart and soul in a new trilogy to Jason Derulo revealing his 15 rules to succeeding in life, there are so many good books by Black authors to discover this June. Chuck D's edition of 1,200 copies worldwide comes in three different art sets, each numbered and signed by the author. How long should R Kelly spend in prison -and does a USA system give a man a chance for a man to change his world around? Chuck D is an illustrator—he designed the Public Enemy logo—as well as a rapper, and studied graphic arts at Adelphi University. Featuring over 250 of his paintings, sketches and drawings, Livin’ Loud includes a commentary of over 13,000 words in which Chuck D traces his musical and artistic trajectory offering unprecedented insight into his life and work. The book launch coincides with the launch of Chuck D’s new PBS/BBC documentary, Fight The Power: How Hip-Hop Changed The World.

Chuck D's fine art book, LIVIN’ LOUD–ARTitation, which features over 250 of the Hip-Hop legend's paintings, sketches and drawings, is available now. Chuck D plans to continue his activist mission with the launch of Enemy Books, a new imprint produced and distributed by Brooklyn-based independent publisher Akashic Books. I was really impressed [because he] really understood what Akashic Books is about and how we operate: We’re the host of the imprint,” Temple said. Chuck D, born Carlton Douglas Ridenhour, is an American rapper, activist and founding member of the iconic hip-hop group, Public Enemy.

His rap group Public Enemy is widely regarded as a revolutionary act both in terms of its impact on hip-hop and its use of music to impart a message of race and class equality. A multi-platinum recording artist, recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an educator, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, activist and celebrated visual artist, co-founder of the supergroup Prophets of Rage, Chuck D’s credentials are arguably the most impressive in hip-hop. And this is something that Chuck was doing regardless of whether or not they were going to be published. Jaw-dropping statistics (40% of all personal guns in the world are owned by US citizens; there are 100 million more guns in the US than there are citizens) intersect with poetic reflections ("Another mall shooting seems normalized in Columbus / Raining outside in Ohio / Raining inside folks panic / Inside hearing shots bust"), all written in Chuck's hand over vibrant, utterly original, neoexpressionist ink and watercolor art. In the last six years, I’ve reverted back into the arts, combining all of these elements in my work, still trying to change the world. Some themes are depicted in portraits and feature prominent people such as Salman Rushdie, Jay-Z, even the Pope. Genesis Publications has today (October 19) shared details of the book, which is currently unnamed, and has encouraged fans to register their interest in the project here. With a foreword by Rage Against the Machines Tom Morello, Chuck Ds art debut Livin Loud is a visual experience of over 250 artworks, each piece reflective of the man behind the music. In Livin' Loud, Public Enemy founder, hip-hop pioneer and revolutionary activist, Chuck D, presents the first collection of his illustrative art with a 13,000-word biographical commentary offering unprecedented insight into his life and work. Chuck D was a graphic design student from Long Island before a chance meeting with a handful of students ended with the release of ‘Yo! We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. He began the trilogy of journals in 2020, just as COVID-19 was starting to take hold in the country and a new presidential election was on the horizon.

A new book featuring Chuck D‘s artwork alongside commentary by the Public Enemy rapper has been announced.
