Good story line and mix of characters but this author has a seriously frustrating need to string things out much longer than is required to hold the readers interest or maintain suspense.

Broken Souls and the DI Lottie Parker series will appeal to crime fiction and thriller enthusiasts alike. After the bombshell delivered at the end of this book, I can hardly wait to see what happens for Lottie next! A surprise announcement at the end of the book leaves a bit of a cliffhanger that will have fans of Lottie Parker biting their nails waiting for the next episode in this series.

As always there is a good balance between the personal life of the main characters and the crimes they are investigating… I really enjoyed this book and look forward avidly to the next one. Frasier does have some medical issues, including a grade 3 out of 6 heart murmur and some liver issues that he is on a special diet for. With the crime element of the series, it is a nice bonus that Lottie and Boyd are working on their relationship.

This is a continued theme throughout the ENTIRE book where everything stops so we can have long internal monologue about side characters and what they're doing, what happened in their past, and many other things not relevant to the story.The author makes the possible suspects blend into the crowd so it is certainly no easy feat to spot the culprits; Gibney partakes in some captivating misdirection and plants red herrings in plain sight for us to query. Ghost was the only character I wanted to see developed and even he couldn’t keep me interested after Frank. All in all, good police procedural with an interesting enough plot and great improvement after the last two books in the series.
