Like the 27″ model, by default it is set at 60 in the OSD which over-accentuates the sharpness of the image for normal office and desktop use we felt. Users should be aware that the panel exhibits the off-centre contrast shift which is inherent to the VA pixel structure. Our oscilloscope showed that the response times improved slightly as the setting was increased up to the maximum ‘Fastest’ mode, but at the same time the level of overshoot snuck up a bit. G2G average response time in this mode which was excellent for any screen, especially for a VA panel.

The average contrast ratio of the screen was measured at a slightly disappointing 1896:1 which was strong thanks to the VA technology panel but a fair bit lower than the specified 2500:1 figure.

However, it's a unique gaming monitor because it features Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS smart platform built-in, letting you stream content without needing a PC, and it has extra connectivity options like built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. These results are in Game Mode with the Picture Mode set to 'Custom', Local Dimming on 'High', and the HDR10+ Gaming setting in HDR Tone Mapping set to 'Advanced'. For a screen that runs at 2560 x 1440 resolution and up to 240Hz refresh rate you are certainly going to benefit from using adaptive-sync VRR (G-sync or FreeSync).

Although it has a local dimming feature, it doesn't do much to improve the contrast, as most content causes all zones to turn on. The white point was also now improved to 6511k which was great news, although out of the box there had been minimal deviance there of only 2% being slightly too warm. It displays a wide range of colors in HDR and makes most colors look vivid, but it doesn't get bright enough to make small highlights stand out against the rest of the image.
