About this deal

She’s self centered, ambitious, broken, over achiever, competitive, a true self destructive person showing sociopath tendencies. Fans of books such as The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl will find this book captivating, as will anyone who enjoys being led down a winding, frightening path.

Ten years after an unsolved campus murder, the victim's best friends reunite, knowing one might be a monster—but is anyone innocent? Shelf Awareness “A complex and deftly crafted psychological thriller of a mystery novel, "In My Dreams I Hold A Knife" showcases author Ashley Winstead's remarkably impressive narrative driven storytelling style. The first section of this book is focused on scene-setting, with an emphasis on establishing character backstories and developing a strong sense of place. If there was one element of IN MY DREAMS I HOLD A KNIFE that perhaps didn’t work quite as well for me, it was the book’s pacing, particularly in the book’s first third.ICYMI: Our Mortal Editions are Exclusive Editions for YA and Adult contemporary books and can include any books that do not fall under the fantasy genre. This balance between drama and suspense, once established, sucked me right in and kept me hooked until the book’s end.

Not without faults, a reader would be tempted to view her as superficial as she’s so focused on her image. However, readers won’t fully understand exactly what the story’s central mystery is, or what exactly is at stake for the book’s characters, until a shift in the story occurs that sets our characters on a new—and much more dangerous—path. At its heart, Winstead’s novel examines what it means to covet the lives of others, no matter the cost. I liked going back and forth between different timelines which give enough clues about characters’ motives and perspectives. The characters and their friendships with each other were so dark and gritty, each one more than what they appear on the surface. They are each distinguished well and the developing cracks in their relationships add a lot of dark, brooding suspense in an already sinister-feeling mystery. If you enjoy psychological thrillers about people with secrets, I recommend you check out Winstead’s debut novel. Told in racing dual timelines, with a dark campus setting, In My Dreams I Hold A Knife is an addictive, propulsive read you won't be able to put down. And the more you get to know these characters, the more you will begin to suspect that every single one of them might be harboring their own dark secrets about the horrific murder of their friend a decade ago.

BLOOD SISTERS will be published in September, but thanks to Vanessa and her publisher, we’re able to get an exclusive early glimpse into the book right here in today’s blog post! What she does not anticipate, is that her former friends have lived with their own insecurities and dark secrets. One of the unique selling points of Ashley Winstead’s debut novel is its ensemble cast, and the riveting glimpse Winstead offers her readers into the inner workings of its central friend group, a clique known as the “East House Seven. Although the characters aren’t particularly likeable, I liked getting to know them in the school setting.Six college friends reunite at homecoming weekend a decade after graduating — This crew is brimming with dark deceit and secrets, and are forced to confront the details of a murder they’ve all tried to leave behind. Special thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

But with strong characters and lots of great twists, In My Dreams I Hold A Knife is most definitely a standout mystery thriller. In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is whatever you're looking for: a mystery, broken hearts, very deep secrets and unbearable truths. Taut and atmospheric, with scenes from Jessica's childhood and college years interposed with the dramatic events of the present day, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife will keep readers guessing until the very last moment.Definitely had shades of The Girls Are All So Nice Here with the reunion theme and something terrible happening while they were at school. This, of course, is not inherently a negative, and the care with which the author builds her story’s universe pays off as the book progresses.
