About this deal

They’re a one trick pony for the nastiest type of British weather- but they do what they do wonderfully. An aggressively studded sole guarantees grip when ascending, descending or contouring in the steepest and wettest of conditions. Depending on your experience, preferred distance and ability, the Mudclaw 300 is a perfect training shoe that will keep you happy for many a run. Durability: A Dual-C combination of medium sticky and hard sticky rubbers ensure the studs stay strong over time and continue to deliver. Yes, they are the best Mudclaws I have worn yet, the most comfortable and the least blister inducing.

Propels fell and mountain runners over the muddiest of terrains by delivering the ultimate grip in mud through an aggressive outsole. Protect yourself from the harsher parts of the trail, and help keep your beloved shoes in one piece a while longer. The added cushioning was superb when running longer or when getting off soft ground and on to harder trails.

The 2015 incarnation though does have a wicked and eye grabbing colour way and having used many versions on inov-8 (fave the 212 here) I was keen to put the Mudclaw 300 through its paces. Its hero-status outsole remains as aggressive as ever, guaranteeing the ultimate grip for mountain, obstacle and adventure racers on the muddiest, steepest terrains. For a quick thrash around local trails, I’d be looking for something lighter, but for a big day out they are fine.

We only use the information we collect about you lawfully, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. The grip on muddy hills inspires a lot of confidence, in a situation where my Salomon trail shoes would start suffering a lot of wheelspin. The sides of the shoe are reinforced with a series of zig-zag support (webbing upper support) to hold the foot in place and these extend to the back of the shoe. Despite subjecting the mudclaw to ankle deep mud, snow, ice and slush, they self cleaned regardless, to the point outside of sliding now and again, you wouldn’t know there was challenging terrain beneath your feet. There is good grip in direction changes through the descent although the fit isn’t as tight as previous versions and does lack some of the secure feel of previous versions as a result. My test run includes 1-mile of road before and after the trails and I have to say, this shoe feels wonderfully comfortable on the hard stuff despite its ‘off-road’ pedigree. The MUDCLAW 300 CLASSIC propels fell and mountain runners over the muddiest of terrains by delivering the ultimate grip in mud through an aggressive outsole.

So with around 45 miles put through the outsole, the edges of the lugs have started to round slightly. If you have the previous version of the ‘300’ in yellow and black, don’t be fooled into thinking this is the same shoe. Please Note: Shipments sent outside of the UK are sold exclusive of VAT and may be subject to local import duties and taxes. When I got home I looked at the shoe, re-laced it and then the following day went out and ran the same 8-mile loop. However, the Mudclaw doesn’t fit as tightly or as snug as say the Salomon S-Lab Sense SG (the perfect fitting shoe for me! Drop is a personal thing but I am a firm believer that 6mm/ 8mm drop shoes provide a great middle ground and if you are running longer, a slightly higher drop is kinder on the calf and legs. The multidirectional stud pattern ensures mud is released quickly from the outsole, so the studs are always able to deliver maximum grip with every step. I changed the sock configuration around for the races that I have been in, either wearing thicker socks, or doubling up with a thin pair and a thick pair, and bang, not a problem.
