About this deal

Last Christmas, they found out that Will was adopted when Will was rude to their grandmother, and she said something about bad blood. She's got this brother you see, only, he isn't really her brother because he's just discovered that he was adopted when he was a baby. Dora Reads is the book blog of a Bookish Rebel, supporting the Diversity Movement, bringing you Queer views and mental health advocacy, slipping in a lot of non-bookish content, and spreading reading to the goddamn world! In 2007 Jacky Daydream was published, an inspirational true story of how a shy schoolgirl became a superstar author.

Introverted Violet has no friends, until the colourful manic pixie dream girl Jasmine attends her school. And nor does Violet stand up to her brother, Will: What was I doing, still playing these weird games with Will? She is always away in her own world, filled with fairies designed by her favorite author, Casper Dream.

Will cares about her but he tends to scare her with some of the games they play, for instance, telling Violet to go up in the dark loft even though Violet's afraid that there may be bats. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Ever since the cat came out of the bag, Will has locked himself away, only coming out of his room to go to school and to occasionally gorge out on junk food. I suppose it is no surprise that I have grown up to still enjoy reading and start a blog to share that with others. But Violet can't keep Jasmine away from her house forever and when Will and Jasmine get together and apparently exclude Violet--she can think of only one person who can help her.

Debo decir que una de las cosas que más me han "perturbado" al leer el libro ha sido la relación que tienen Vio y Will, y es que no se si soy yo que estoy mal o que, pero bueno. Violet has an obsession with fairies created by her favourite author Casper Dreams, struggles to make friends and is emotionally abused by her brother—who just happens to be adopted and uses that as his excuse for his behaviour. It takes everything we can relate to, hardships of fitting in, family problems and adds magic to every moment. Violet’s life changes when the new girl in the school, Jasmine, who cares two hoots about fitting in, takes a shine to her. Nick Sharratt has written and illustrated many books for children including Shark in the Park, You Choose and Pants.

It was the time when cellphones weren’t ubiquitous yet and people still wrote letters to authors instead of stalking them or talking about/to them online. This is a difficult one as the characters do seem to have depth but I don’t think they really change that much. And there is a slight fluttering of queer details throughout; not just with Violet's interpretative feelings towards her new friend Jasmine, but she also mentions that boys as well as girls are in love with Will, and that campy men play in the pantomimes she's been to, and then there's Jasmine's dad's versatile theatre and TV acting career. It is the arrival of the intoxicatingly popular Jasmine, the daughter of a famous actor, at Violet's school that has impacted most on her life of late.
