Note how the cockpit canopy sits flush with the 1x3 slopes at its rear, just like in the UCS X-Wing. The big standout though has got to be the head, which I’m just waiting to show up in some Fallout or Killzone related minifigures. It isn't quite possible to close the lid with them sitting there, unless you remove hoodies and Pieces and whatnot. Use it as a guide to the contents of the set, or to find out part numbers when requesting replacements.

When Bad Cop's Super Secret Police Dropships started attacking and destroying Cloud Cuckoo Land, Benny first shows up and tells Emmet, Wyldstyle, Batman, Vitruvius and Unikitty he could build a spaceship and he started building it. The top-down view of this set bears a particular resemblance to the red shuttle from the Classic Space logo itself! So far this new part has only come in Trans-Clear [BL]/Transparent [TLG], in the massive Star Wars 10240 Red Five X-Wing Starfighter last year. The set includes 4 minifigures: Benny, Robo Emmet, Space Wyldstyle and Robo Pilot, plus an Astro Kitty figure.

I was lucky to win this set as a prize in a speed-building competition at the Eurobricks Event 2014 - though they were selling the set at the LEGOLAND Park. Of course, that didn’t stop me from putting him on top of the ship when it’s on display (and tucking Batman from the angry kitty set in there as well), but you have to remove him to swoosh the ship around. Agreed on the 'wedge', and the overall design lines from every direction are superb - which I hope my clinical shots convey. Some mention that they're easy to follow, while others say that they are very complicated and take a lot of time to put together.Flickr is full of inspiration but of course, what New Elementary Classic Space post would be complete without mentioning the inspiration you'll find in Pete Reid and Tim Goddard's LEGO Space: Building the Future ? All in all, while there seems to be some interesting activity on the site it seems to be the very opposite of user-friendly, and the reference material it offers is less comprehensive and more poorly-presented than the sites used in this review. Benny's spaceship is a homage to the original: it is rather more a modern take on the old classics; perhaps what TLG would have produced today had the Blue Era line miraculously continued to the present. Various play-features are demonstrated in the insets along the bottom - we'll see them in action later - and the final inset reminds us that the set is from the LEGO Movie - if the gigantic logo on the front was too subtle. Her cute face peers out of the rectangular visor of a Blue spacesuit and best of all, the 1X3 arch that makes up her body has a little Classic Space logo on one side!

The advertised piece count is 940, which seems surprisingly low but there are a lot of very large elements in there. The inside is roomy, and the Robot Pilot sits comfortably in what is essentially a flying cockpit with wings. In short, a beautiful ship that works wonderfully as a Lego Movie piece, fits in perfectly with a Classic Space collection, or just for parts for you to build your own grand Classic Space adventure.More space seats appear in modules two and three, which begin to show off the colour scheme of blue, greys light and dark, black and yellow. The numbered stickers you see above, things like latch, and unfortunately, the classic space logo on the back wings, are all stickers.

A UCS-style stand would work, but if given a choice I'd plump for retractable landing gear, which would help to disguise those ugly Technic blocks which are all-too visible under the wings. Even though I wasn’t a Classic Space guy, you just appreciate the blending of classing and modern building styles in the set. These are attached to common parts, so there was no difficult application decision for me at all here - Benny HAS to have his LL 929 markings! Again the colour scheme appears to pay homage to Space Police, which is even more striking in my picture as I didn't add the Octan stickers to the wings. There are things the designer might have done differently: the ship could have been built with an opening rear, like 497/928, or with separating sections, like 6980; however, I think they were wise to keep the set different enough to prevent it being branded a re-hash of an old classic. For the entire fight with the ship, MetalBeard was a passenger sitting on the back and smacking around robots with laser sharks or cannonballs or something.
