About this deal

The author set the scene very well from the start of the novel, and the words and pages weren't wasted on visual description, but on the characters, their personalities and the thickening plot. They hope to find the answers they seek, while making new friends, learning new concepts, and experiencing the entropic nature of the universe. By the end of the book I understood his purpose, but it was hard at some points fighting through to get to that purpose.

I'm an extreme scaredy-cat when it comes to anything crime or anything that could possibly happen in real life, but I ended up reading this late into the night and I was honestly scared to go to sleep because I have extremely irrational fears. He did some messed up stuff, but when dealing with the mafia, he seems like he didn't have much of a choice.the curtain had more screentime than the both of them combined 🤷‍♀️ i can't even consider simon as comedic relief because he has pre-teen fortnight player type humour. Es un poco lento al principio, siento que ciertas partes podrían haber sido un poco más rápidas para captar mejor el ritmo, pero debo de decir que aún así lo disfruté. This is told from the point of view of Red, a girl whose police officer mom was killed in the line of duty.

i can see why the author thought that showing her trauma was important — however, it was not necessary to mention it all.yes (i’d be lying if i said it wasn’t) but it was not that surprising given the fact that i guessed part of it. It's also super weird that Jackson names the mafia family Gotti, after the most famous New York crime boss, when the characters are from Philadelphia, which has its own notorious crime families. She made extremely dumb decisions that had me staring at my book in shock, but at least she was an interesting character with depth, which is better than a cardboard cutout character.

All friends in some which way or another, brother and sister, boyfriend and girlfriend or just simply friends. Mel and Sid are determined to do this together, but they soon discover that pregnancy is totally different for boys and girls. This was a great look at how humans and most importantly relationships fold in high pressures situations.

As readers continue through each layer of the story, the way that the characters connect to each other outside of classmates/friends is intriguing.

And I very much enjoyed attempting to solve the case with Pip (who I now want to be my best friend). Normally I get a bit carried away and skip descriptive paragraphs sometimes, just because they bore me when I want the story to get to the point, but this book, not a chance! When their relationship starts to fall apart under all the pressure, Mel finds herself feeling alone with the impossible dilemma of the Little Bang growing inside her. I also loved how fast paced this is, because I really wanted a book that was fast and quick, which this was, though it was a little confusing at times, like with some of the plot twists I had to really think about what was happening. When their their RV breaks down, they originally think it is an accident- but then discover they are being targeted by a sniper.Since she can't afford to fly anywhere for break, her best friend, Maddy, actually suggests the RV trip. Mel's religious parents insist she must keep the baby, whilst Sid's feminist mum pushes for a termination.
