The packaging is eye catching with a stubby bottle and a label that projects the musical and Jamaican inspiration nicely with bright and vibrant colours. The Duppy Share folks teamed up with the brilliant British musician and actor Kano to create Duppy White! Vividly neon green with a bouquet of aromas incorporating mint, lemon blame, aniseed and of course wormwood, Grande Absente Original is made to a pre-ban absinthe recipe the flavour builds as you enjoy each sip. I’m not sure many white rums have been marketed towards the sipping end of the spectrum but certainly the biggest player globally in white rum – Bacardi certainly introduced a white sipping rum a few years back. Duppy Share White Jamaican Rum is a blend of molasses pot still rums from Clarendon, Worthy Park and Hampden distilleries.
The Duppy Share has a fun vibe to it, so I guess some more snobbier elements of the rum world don’t tend to take the brand too seriously.Caribbean legend has it that the dark duppy spirits swoop between the islands stealing the best share of the rum.
If you want something to punch you in the face and leave you with a bloody nose then go and get another bottle of Wray and Nephew.I will say that without doubt the grapefruit note on this rum is probably one of the most pronounced and easy to spot flavours I have ever encountered. It has been available in most major retailers and UK supermarket chain Morrison’s for quite some time now. There is a spicy chilli/Pimento like not e as well which runs right across the sweeter, fruitier notes. Rich, indulgent flavour notes are balanced out with lighter, more chocolatey-sour ones as the younger and older rums react to each other. The first white rum that’s designed to be drunk neat and in shots, as well as starring in classic white rum cocktails, Duppy White asks us to celebrate life and guarantees nights to remember. The colour scheme has been adapted to the colours of the Jamaican Flag so we have a green, black and yellow colour scheme. Lively tropical fruits such as green banana, pineapple and juicy mango which give way to rich caramel sweetness, fresh thyme, pimento berry spice and bite of pepper. Duppies are Caribbean souls or spirits who live at the foot of the cottonwood trees and have a fondness for rum.I would definitely tend to mix this rather than have it simply neat, but I wouldn’t mind a shot or three. Combining natural herbs and fruit steeped in apricot kernel oil, Disaronno has a heady and floral scent which follows through to its flavour. They also mention the rum is designed to work both neat and in cocktails, but that remains to be seen – after all my opinion is absolute!
