A traditional Snow Kingdom race that only Shiverians can take part in. Can you be the first to bounce and spin 'round the course three times? Mario can utilize Cappy in different ways, including throwing him to defeat enemies, jumping on Cappy as a platform. He can also collect coins for Mario when thrown. Cappy can possess various living and non-living objects throughout the game world. The ability is formally known as Capture. The vast dome that encloses the Kingdom means the temperature is kept constant, and is perfect for growing flowers. The dense forest is ripe for exploring, not least to get a closer look at the robots who‘re always busy tending to the plants. Known as Steam Gardeners, they work tirelessly and can even repair themselves. No-one knows why they expend so much energy on the plants and flowers here, but they seem to enjoy it. Cappy is shown to be bold, as he is passionate about rescuing Tiara from Bowser. Contrarily, Cappy is shown to be slightly timid and easily startled at times. Cappy is also talkative, as he frequently provides Mario with advice and sometimes information relating to the current location. Pauline is also shown wearing a replica of the Mario Cap after Mario successfully obtains the Multi Moon in the mission Long Journey's End on the Darker Side of the Moon Kingdom. The Cap Kingdom and Dark Side are the only kingdoms in Super Mario Odyssey to contain no 8-bit segments.

In the group photo, after the player obtains 100% completion in the game, a restored or spare version of the Mario Cap is shown.In a small deviation from previous games, those treasures are not Power Stars but Power Moons, required to run Mario’s hat-shaped airship – the titular Odyssey – so that he and Cappy can chase after Bowser as he embarks on a weird scavenger hunt in pursuit of the perfect wedding. The people can be a little too serious for their own good, but if you see an open door, it means you're welcome. Cappy's default form is a large white top hat with magenta eyes, but he is actually a small, spectral being. Cappy can take the form of different hats, including Sombreros. Cappy's large eyes appear across all of his different appearances. Don't let the abundant nature of the Wooded Kingdom fool you – it's a very technologically advanced place. Sand Kingdom

Stay on your toes and keep hopping over the enormous jump-rope. It gets faster and faster with every hop, skip and jump! In the Super Smash Bros. series, the color of Mario's cap can be changed when the player chooses one of Mario's alternate costumes. Mario also adjusts his cap properly in one of his idle poses. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario spins and takes his cap off, revealing his hair during his side taunt. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario throws his cap and Cappy appears during his new side taunt. Cappy also has a chance of appearing in Mario's Super Jump Punch.

After you've cleared the game, you'll be able to take on the Balloon World challenge by speaking to Luigi in each kingdom. The secret to success is knowing the area inside out! Moving into the 1950s and 1960s, hats fell from grace[‘s head]; they were seen as a frivolous accessory of the modern world that were especially useless when driving around in posh convertible cars. However, the "Too Bad!" screen will not appear if this occurs, showing up only after Mario finishes talking to an NPC. Cappy also informs the player of various details of the game and the surrounding world, such as regional coins that can only be used in one kingdom.
