Description

Hot-swap PCB allows you to replace 3 pins/5 pins switches freely without soldering issues. Enjoy the fun of making your own unique keyboard. On paper, the Royal Kludge RK84 is a winner. A simple design is paired with three connection choices, a larger battery, USB passthrough, and software that allows for further configuration. For customizers, it's a win with hot-swappable switches and standard keycaps, with a price tag that's lower than most of the competition. But the 2.4-GHz connection barely works, USB passthrough only works in wired mode, and the software is a miss. Unfortunately, my experience with it was mixed. Key assignments looked to be saved to the keyboard, working even I connected to another device via Bluetooth. But there's no way to switch between the profiles via the keyboard itself; it only seems to store the last profile selected on the software. And lighting control is even more spotty. Sometimes a setting would take when I switched devices, while other times it would stay on the default options. In this article, we will be further investigating the Royal Kludge brand. We will be having a look at their history and product lineup. And ultimately, we will be helping consumers decide if Royal Kludge keyboards are a good fit for them. Royal Kludge Brand History The Royal Kludge RK61 is one of the first products that the company manufactured. It sports a 60% form factor and has features such as hot-swap and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

The keys are hot-swappable and up to five devices can be paired and stored in the device’s memory for later use. There is pro-driver support available(Windows only) and the battery has a capacity of 3,750 mAh. The keyboard can be connected in one of three ways — wired, Bluetooth, or 2.4Ghz wireless. The keyboard features 2 built-in USB-A pass-through ports and 1 Type-C Port. Use the included USB-C cable to charge the keyboard, or connect it to a PC/laptop and use it as a wired keyboard. Slightly better typing angle if you are comparing with K2V2. A lot better if you are comparing to K2V1.In terms of its switches, the RK61 features RK branded mechanical keyboard switches. Users can choose between red, brown, and blue switches. RK84tested comfortable Ergonomic 8°angle might not meet every users' need, so we give them another option to choose. Add a magnetic pad foot or not, is up to your definition of comfort. The feel and sound is really good. A personal advice is 𝐃𝐎 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐆𝐎 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐊 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 no matter how much you have to wait… GenesisPC provide you Gat red and yellow pre-lubbed. Get those. I swear you wont regret. (there isn’t really that big of a difference in sound between the two switches I just mentioned but yeah red feels fast cause of the less force to press them.) In addition, the RK71 has a unique 70% form factor that isn’t usually seen on mechanical keyboards. It is very similar to a 65% layout. However, there are even more keys added to the right side of the keyboard. The RK71 is perfect for those who want a more visually striking keyboard and want additional programmable keys without sacrificing the compact size of the keyboard. Royal Kludge RK84 Royal Kludge RK84 When it comes to testing a mechanical keyboard one of the things I always end up doing is a timed typing test. These can be found easily by searching for ‘typing test’ on Google. My average words per minute count is usually around 72 and with the RK84 keyboard, I found that I had a faster typing rate of 74 WPM.

The Royal Kludge RK925 is arguably the company’s most innovative product. It features a unique foldable design as well as low-profile mechanical keys. It is a keyboard that is designed to be paired with mobile devices and is meant to be carried around. RGB is bright enough to see in daylight. So you’ll get extra fps in daylight as well cause its a universal truth that RGB=fps boost xD.The RK920 does not come with hot-swappable switches and does not have any wireless capability. It is pretty much just a basic mechanical keyboard with no additional special features. But overall, it is a perfect upgrade for anyone who wants to try out mechanical keyboards for the first time without having to relearn typing in a smaller form factor. RK Royal Kludge RK925 Royal Kludge RK925 This is NOT the typical RK84. It does not have 2.4GHz or Bluetooth mode. It can only be connected by a type C cable.

The Royal Kludge tries to offer more for less, but it should ensure that the additional features actually work. Instead, the final product is a series of open questions. If you want a wired or wireless Bluetooth 75% keyboard with software-less RGB lighting configuration and a long battery life, this might be the keyboard for you. But when you step outside of those boundaries, the RK84 falters and stumbles. Expand your options using the available software to design your own new modes and effects. Macros with different keybindings or shortcuts for more efficient work and gaming. The first wireless mode with the 2.4-GHz dongle is… pretty bad. Initial testing was done on my desktop PC. There, I found the keyboard mostly worked within a range of a foot or two of the dongle, but outside of that, it was a mess of missed keystrokes. This poor performance remained regardless of which USB port I used. It's one of the worst wireless dongle connections I've experienced. The LEDs are north facing and super bright. They fill up the space and the white gasket reflects it really well. The Royal Kludge RK71 takes a departure from RK’s usual keyboard design. It has a more aggressive look, similar to most mainstream gaming keyboards. Royal Kludge is a Chinese gaming peripherals manufacturer that was founded in 2014 . Their main goal was to offer high-quality products at a very competitive price point. The company brought the RK61 to the market sometime in 2019. Testing on my laptop was a bit better. Without any other dongles in the laptop, I had a stable connection for up to five feet; after that, I saw the occasional missed keystroke. Adding an active Razer wireless dongle next to it dropped the range down to three to four feet. Even within that range, I found that a large obstacle—in this case, my kitchen counter and sink—caused missed keystrokes as well. The USB-C port or the included cable isn't sturdy though. I found the cable would pop out occasionally as I moved the keyboard around during testing. It's worth noting that data and charging on the USB 2.0 port only works in wired mode.

As for its wireless capability, the RK84 offers a more reliable and lag-free solution compared to the more budget-priced RK keyboards. It will inevitably not have the same versatility as Bluetooth, meaning its use case is strictly for desktop setups. Overall, the RK84 is perfect for those who want a large keyboard with F-keys and want to have a more reliable wireless connection for general use and for gaming. Royal Kludge Sink87 Royal Kludge Sink87 The Royal Kludge RK68 is a 65% version of the RK61. It mostly supports the same set of features as the RK61. Its only real defining feature is the inclusion of the additional keys. The review unit came with linear Red switches, whereas I tend to do my day-to-day work on the tactile Brown switches. Combined with the learning curve of typing on this 75% model, it was a whole new experience for me. Overall, despite the hot-swappable nature of the switches, they all felt well-seated without a lot of bounce to them. Wireless mode with stable Bluetooth 5.0, hassle-free 2.4Ghz dongle plus USB-C wired mode set no limits about your keyboard connection. RK owns a complete set of automated production lines independently researched and developed, focusing on the R & D and production of game equipment peripherals. RK Yellow Linear Switch

We've converted this review to Test Bench 1.3, which overhauls how key input is evaluated. We've added new tests for Single Key Latency, Multi Key Latency, Data Transmission, and Chord Split. We've also introduced a new Raw Performance usage and adjusted how the Gaming and Office usage scores are calculated. You can see the full changelog here. The innovative 75% unique layout differs from traditional TKL keyboards, which cuts more clumsy space off while supporting the same functionality as a practical arrow, multimedia, and control keys. This keyboard works entirely without software, but Royal Kludge does have a software configuration suite. That said, it's a bit low-effort. First, the software has two different versions depending on your keyboard's serial number, as indicated by an included text file. Second, folks have reported the installer is flagged as malware in some antivirus programs, and it's not signed in Windows, so you have to approve its installation.
