With her family ruined by war, penniless thirteen-year-old Sarah Jennings is overjoyed to be chosen as a maid of honor at the bawdy Restoration court of Charles II. Ook al is het historische fictie, dan nog was een beetje meer realiteitszin gepast geweest in dit verhaal waar de auteur ‘zoveel onderzoek’ naar heeft gedaan. You didn't even know that that woman invaded your wife's room while she's in pain for having that tea the woman gave her, she screams yet no one hear her? Written along two timelines starting with the funeral in 1972 of Edward, or David as he is known by his family and friends, the king who abdicated so he could marry the love of his life Wallis Simpson, an American nobody who is also a double divorcee.

I was primed to read something like this book not just because I loved the royal wedding, but I loved the idea of an American marry into British royalty. All in all it was a love story about two rather selfish, immature people who had very little loyalty to anyone or anything other than themselves. And as Wallis inveigles herself into high society – thanks chiefly to eccentric design and fashion guru Cecil Beaton who recognises her as ‘a kindred soul’ – she finally gets to meet David, as the Prince of Wales is known to his friends and family, and he is captivated by her high spirits, lack of sycophancy and her encouragement of his efforts to modernise the monarchy. She can't escape the overwhelming public outrage and villainized, she becomes the woman everyone blames--the face of the most dramatic royal scandal of the twentieth century. She has now published ten novels, Gallery Girl, Beautiful People, Bad Heir Day, Pastures Nouveaux, Fame Fatale, Azur Like It, The Wives of Bath, The School for Husbands, Filthy Rich, Farm Fatale, Gossip Hound, Simply Divine, all top 10 bestsellers.Unable to secure employment without references or connections, Angélique desperately makes her way to Paris, where she rescues a young woman fleeing an abusive madam—and suddenly sees a possibility: Open an elegant house of pleasure that will protect its women and serve only the best clients. I did not know anything about Wallis Simpson before she caught the eye of the Prince of Wales so I found this very interesting. A new historical fiction work about Wallis Simpson, the woman who changed the course of British history. The deceased Ceyx instructs Alcyone to bury him and to cease her sorrow, and when Alcyone opens her eyes Ceyx has gone. When, to her shock and amazement, he refuses to give her up--or recognize that they are facing impossible odds--her fairy tale becomes a nightmare.

Danielle Steel has been hailed as one of the world's most popular authors, with nearly a billion copies of her novels sold. This book is the second book in a series about royal outsiders and is about Mrs Wallis Simpson, who arrived in London in 1928 as a married, quite poor middle-aged American with no connections. In the faithful day that Duchess Ilya von Bismarck had been waiting for her whole life, she had finally uncovered the identity of the lone culprit who made, not only the Empire, but the world suffer.Through her eyes, the reader is transported back in time and thoroughly immersed in the lives of the British royal family. But, this is Angelique, perhaps one of the most capable, did I mention beautiful, young women of all time. I normally love historical fiction that takes place in Britain in the 1920’s to 1930’s, but I was disappointed with this one. Compared to the indifference he clearly expressed during their five years of marriage, she wanted to laugh out loud, as she understood the reason for his disgusting emotions. Her tantrums are justified, she is pregnant ofc and here's another bit*h trying to harm her and the baby just to covet her husband.
