Description

This new series of Shetland boasts a stellar guest cast – what was it like working with the likes of Phyllis Logan, Dawn Steele, Jamie Sives and Lorraine McIntosh? Finland: Viewers in Finland were able to start watching the show from August 2015 on public broadcaster YLE's main TV1 channel, where the show was titled " Shetlandsaarten murhat." I loved it actually but to be honest as soon as I read the first scripts I was like “I’m in!”. The writer [Paul Logue] has given everybody a rounded character even down to the hitmen, Howell [Don Gilét] and Nowak [Arnas Fedaravičius]. Just the nuance and the detail of every character is amazing. Tosh and I have had parallel journeys. When we made the pilot, I myself was a real rookie. I had done very little TV and was a deer in headlights, thrown in at the deep end and learning on my feet how the whole business of making a TV show works. And as she grew in experience, and grew up, so did I.

On 2 December 2019, BBC One announced that two further series were intended for 2020 and 2021 with Henshall and O’Donnell returning in their roles. [4] Production had to be postponed due to COVID-19. Series 6 broadcast began on 20 October 2021 and series 7 on 10 August 2022. Lloyd tells Pérez he fled the United States after being framed for the murder of a police officer, a crime for which he'd be executed. Pérez arrests him for killing William Rodgers. Fertiliser of the kind used in the first bomb is stolen from a local supplier. Lloyd says that Rodgers appeared to recognize him in a local store but seemed to want to avoid him. Pérez suggests that he killed Rodgers, Connor – who knew his true identity – and Bryd to hide his secret. A date written on debris from the caravan explosion suggests a connection to the 1993 MV Braer tanker disaster. Pérez asks Sandy to look for local families or businesses affected by the oil spill. The camera card found by Abbie reveals Martin's photos of the local oil terminal, harbour authority, Bryd, Rodgers and Lloyd. Martin is actually DI Calvin Walker of the Counterterrorism Unit, monitoring a potential threat in Shetland. He suspects Rodgers – who'd been advocating for climate action online – Connor and Bryd were involved in an eco-terrorist cell. Tosh suspects a message in a library book cell members were using to communicate referred to Carol Anne Manè, an ex of Donnie's who had been asking him about Tosh and who works at the oil terminal. Carol Anne is arrested but denies everything. Ally Fleet, whose family lost their fishing business in the Braer disaster, aims his boat at an oil tanker heading for the terminal but veers away at the last minute. No explosives are found on his boat, but someone else is seen constructing a bomb. Where is Shetland filmed? Find out more about the detective drama's location". TV BT. 5 February 2019. assistant coordinator / production coordinator / assistant production coordinator (16 episodes, 2014-2018) Pérez and Tosh's investigation leads them to Glasgow, where they hope to uncover the truth behind Maguire's brutal death and his connection to Robbie Morton. Old ghosts return to haunt Pérez, with his enemies trying to prevent him from getting to the truth.

Filming began in April 2015 for a third series, which began screening in January 2016. [10] This series saw a change in format; with all six episodes covering a single story, written exclusively for television. [11] This was the first series not to adapt any of Cleeves' novels. [10] Ciarán Hinds and Anna Chancellor were among the new cast members for this series. [12] A fourth series was announced by the BBC in July 2016. [13] Again, this series is a single story played out across six episodes and written exclusively for television. Stephen Walters and Neve McIntosh were among the new cast members announced for the series. It was broadcast on BBC One beginning on 13 February 2018. [14] Series 5 was broadcast on BBC1 from 12 February 2019. [15] When a young man disappears on a ferry crossing and a small boy ends up in intensive care after overdosing on Ecstasy, Pérez and the team become convinced the two events are connected. There’s this sort of idea that when we’re British we have to go far afield to get away. After living in America for years, I’ve got this pull to visit Scotland more, so when Shetland came up I couldn’t resist.

Sometimes, the more serious the job, the more you laugh. Life’s too short not to have a laugh. To me, that’s part of the joy of what we do. UK, Televisual Media Ltd. "Televisual | NEWS & COMMENTS". www.televisual.com . Retrieved 9 July 2018.

I would say that Phyllis, Dawn and Lorraine really brought everyone together. They are wonderful, charismatic, generous women who really led the way with their performances and their professionalism. Sometimes it was hard to concentrate during the scenes because watching them perform was so distracting, like being in the front row of a hit show. The crew were all wild swimming after work and I went along to Meal Beach one night and had a dip with them. I was an absolute wimp about it and took about 20 minutes to get in beyond waist height but it was so lovely. Some young people had a fire going on the beach and the water was so clear. That was really special.

This new series is so fresh. The heart of the show remains - the team that we know and love - but everything is shaken up by the arrival of Calder and the crime that comes along with her. Calder brings out a different side in all of us, she draws us out of our cosy comfort zones and challenges us to dig deeper. Ashley Jensen is phenomenal in the role. a b "Crime drama Shetland triumphs at Bafta Scotland". BBC News Scotland. BBC. 7 November 2016 . Retrieved 14 February 2017. Actor Television – Douglas Henshall, Shetland. … Television Drama – Shetland, ITV Studios/BBC One. I feel that Shetland is as much a character as the drama itself. Shetland is one of those places that I never, ever thought I would go or get a chance to work there. It was such a privilege to be there and rendered me speechless when I stepped off that wee plane the first time. There were Shetland ponies and puffins – it’s got its own identity which is quite exhilarating actually. score engineer & mixer / music scoring engineer / Score & Opening Titles Engineer & Mixer / score mixer (44 episodes, 2013-2023) On top of the twists and turns of the case, Calder is faced with figures from her past including her ex-boyfriend Cal Innes (Jamie Sives) and estranged younger brother Alan (Steven Miller) – now the minister of their late father’s old kirk. However, these siblings have starkly different views of their shared childhood.

It's hard to even describe what this journey has meant to me. I never, in a million years, thought I would still be playing this character over a decade after I was originally cast in the part.
