About this deal

I have nothing nice to say about the Barbet. Dull yet expensive. Avoid buying a full bottle at all costs. The bearded gentleman whose face features prominently on the bottle is Don Juan Nieto Melendez. Don Juancho, who is said to have lived in the 19th century, really loved rum and really loved travel. In fact, the guy had such an exhaustive liquor collection from his travels (remind you of anyone, eh?) that it became known as “The Ambassador’s Reserves” among his friends. His dedication, chivalry, and personality ultimately inspired the creation of Diplomático.

Add all of the ingredients into a tall glass, and stir. Strain it over ice into a classic tumbler, and garnish with a grapefruit peel (one final twist!).

In the mouth: Light taste of honey, vanilla and toffee to start. It suddenly gets a bit peppery. This pepperiness lasts all the way. There’s a light flash of thyme. There are the tastes of peach jam, toasted persimmon and apricot liqueur, but they’re close to neutral this time. Some medium tastes of cinnamon at the end. Score: 4/10 Conclusions On the nose: A persistent and pronounced punch of ethanol. It gives way to medium scents of pepperiness, canned peaches, honey and orgeat. Behind those are light scents of apricot, candied orange and banana syrup. Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. At the time, DUSA started with four brands: Chemineaud (liqueur brandy), Manager’s (whiskey liqueur), Cinco Estrellas (rum liqueur), and Diplomático (rum), the gem of the company. At present, it has a great portfolio with a variety of liquors produced with the highest quality standards.

While the shape might be interesting, the color is the more potentially controversial topic. The glass on the bottle is a matte green color, transparent enough to see that there is liquid inside… but not transparent enough to see the actual color of the spirit. On a more modern bottle, this would probably be crystal clear to show off the color — and I normally appreciate a transparent bottle for that exact reason. But here they are going for a bit of a more traditional take: tinted, almost opaque glass. Glass bottles used to be colored like this as standard operating procedure, as sunlight tends to degrade the contents of the bottle fairly rapidly. Green glass prevents degradation and keeps the flavors intact longer. This tinted glass is a signal that this is meant to be sipped and enjoyed over time and not downed at a raging party. At the end of the 1950s, the main liquor distribution companies in the country were grouped under the name of Licorerías Unidas S.A. (LUSA) by the initiative of Seagram’s International, which in 1992 acquired all of the shares of it. Miss Scarlet noted that the rum “smells somewhat sweet,” but appreciated that she could actually sip on the rum alone. “Normally, when I drink straight whiskey, it burns,” she said. “This rum doesn’t burn me, though – I can actually drink it straight. I like it, and I would sip this.” Everything this gives off is just sweet flavors. If I wanted to die of a sweetness overdose, it would be cheaper to chug maple syrup. Paying almost €41 for this one-dimensional, adulterated rum sounds ridiculous to me. Foursquare’s RL Seale 10 and the Appleton 12 are much better buys. They’re honest, cheaper and simply better. Score: 3/10I was one of those who thought these were nice “beginner rums.” The first rums I had that weren’t Bacardi or Captain Morgan were Zaya “12” and Ron Zacapa “23.” This was about five or six years ago; I didn’t know about fake age statements then. That and my conditioned palate ended up being in thrall to these brands. Those were my “beginner rums,” yet are these sweetened products really supposed to be called just rum? Some rum drinkers say rum measured via hydrometers show inaccurate results. Others have countered that there wouldn’t be any need for hydrometer measuring if all brands were honest. Then again, some brands like Don Papa still claim to not be adulterated. Is this something they took from the sugar industry as well? For I remember the sugar industry blaming fats for certain diseases like heart problems. Diplomatico now admits to sweetening their rum. They say it’s part of Venezuela’s culture. Having very little knowledge of the country, I’m not going to comment. Coconut water, tonic water, flavored waters, lemon or lime, pineapple juice, maple syrup, herbal teas, champagne, pink grapefruit juice, marmalades, pomegranate syrup, lavender bitters, herbs.

At DUSA, there are five distillation systems from where they obtain the alcohols that will be used as a base for rums and other liquors: Purple Ivy (squealing with delight): Ooohhh! Ask and you shall receive. This drink needs an ice sphere! I do think it’s better when it’s super chilled. On the other hand, the barrels are categorized by code, not by-product, which will be part of a specific formulation that will grant them the profiles to make each spirit. In this case, Monsalve said, “we do not age rums, we age formulas or codes to maintain the sensory profiles.” Add all of the ingredients into a blender and blitz until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with fresh pineapple. Then, let yourself go and enjoy! In the Hacienda Saruro, next to the town La Miel (Lara), the complex has one of the few plants in the world with different distillation systems gathered in one place. Therefore, the manufacturing plant can produce not only rum but also whiskey, gin, vodka, and cocuy. So while we may not have been our most eloquent selves at the end of the night, one thing was certain: we had finally found a rum that we all liked. Congratulations, Diplomático: you have five new rum fans on your hands. The experience is unique and compelling, especially for those who are looking to further educate their palate when it comes to refined rums. There are 17 fermentation tanks, 12 for molasses and sugar cane honey, and 5 for cereals. Each tank will have 2,000 to 3,000 liters of yeast diluted in water. Purple Ivy: The chartreuse is a little strong for me. I could use a really big ice cube in a square or a circle or a cylinder – wait, I mean a sphere. A sphere?

All in all, I do believe that this Distillery Collection offered by Diplomático is a worthwhile investment.Prestige Range: Ambassador, bottled at 47% ABV, with 12 years of aging and finished in a selection of Pedro Ximénez sherry barrels for 2 years. Single Vintage, bottled at 43% ABV, with 12 years of aging and finished in Oloroso Sherry barrels for one year. The transaction will close within the next 90 days. A statement from Destillers United Group S.L said as follows: “We are proud to have pioneered and been instrumental in developing the super-premium+ rum category around the world. Diplomático Rum is ready to accelerate its growth with Brown‑Forman, one of the world’s most well-known spirits and wines companies. Diplomático’s Batch Kettle Still was shipped to La Miel (Venezuela) in 1959 by Seagram’s Int of Canada who was the owner of the operation until 2002. At the plant, their Cogeneration System combines thermal and electrical energy, and compared to a normal distilling one, it considerably reduces fossil fuel consumption. In the Hacienda Botucal, they conduct a breeding project with more than 1,500 buffalos of the Murrah and Mediterranean breeds, including 550 breeding females for the production of milk and cheese. They also have a select herd of pure Brahman Cattle for breeding to offer quality alternatives to the breeders of the region.
