For Her Consideration” was a surprisingly good read for me and I really enjoyed it a lot. I say surprisingly only because I have never read anything by Amy Spalding before and it’s always hit or miss to read a new author. Thankfully, this was a very big hit and now I’ll definitely be on the look out for more sapphic romances from her. Featuring ~ single 1st person POV, LGBT ~ lesbian, celebrity, curvy girl, found family, friends to lovers, some steamage Spalding makes her adult debut with a sweet, queer contemporary that gives equal weight to familial and platonic love as to the central romance…The steady support of Nina’s chosen family alongside the seemingly inevitable romance with Ari make this a cozy comfort-read.” — Publishers Weekly Lawsomething that suffices to make an informal promise legally binding, usually some value given in exchange for the promise.

What I liked so much about this novel is it felt fresh. Romance is stupidly predictable, and Amy Spalding's story follows the typical romance arc, but what felt different is everything else. This is story set in Los Angeles where both characters work in the TV/film industry, one of whom is an up and coming actor on cusp of critical success (she's the front runner for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar). I've read that book many times--I've already read that book this year. But this is different. Ari is out--she's been out since the beginning of her career. Nina is fat and she embraces it. She likes how she looks/knows she's attractive. She's had hot girlfriends. She's attracting Ari, who could have any queer woman she wants, given her celebrity. It takes place in Los Angeles, but it takes us away (for the most part) from the glitz and glamor of West LA, which is what everyone thinks of when they think of LA. Spalding, instead, takes us to the "grittier" side of LA: Silver Lake, Echo Park, Highland Park, and even the northern suburbs--places that are amazing and remind me of home, places Spalding herself clearly loves. While I enjoyed the book overall, I had trouble believing that someone would cut out all of her very close friends based on what one person says about them, and never explain herself. Like, kudos for wanting to protect your friends and the earnest self-reflection, but I can't imagine being in that situation and not going to a single person in my close circle to be like "you won't believe what just happened". THEN if they gave any indication that my now-ex might be right, I might be like "oh wow I'm garbage". And then it happened again?? I'm very glad this second time was different, and that it led to Nina opening up, but it was still a bit too much for me to believe. Even more so because it really seemed during several points that Nina really believed that... she was cursed? Her ex (not a witch) had cursed her? Which is ironic because Nina did end up making the "prophecy" come true with her choices! One of her friends rightly points out that's the dumbest story she's ever heard - but why is it the whole plot? Pure romance magic' Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners 'Joyful... thoughtful and real' Jasmine Guillory, New York Times bestselling author What if her Hollywood job turns into her Hollywood ending? *** Since a crushing breakup three years ago, Nina Rice has written romance, friends, her dreams of scriptwriting for TV, and even L.A. proper out of her life. This was a heart-warming, wholesome love letter to the LGBTQ+ community, with a strong theme of found family that balanced out the somewhat weaker (in my opinion) romantic plot. With vibrant prose, a setting that is both upscale glam and homey comfort, and a thrumming, pounding, romantic heart, For Her Consideration is pure romance magic.” —Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author An optimistic, empathetic choice for readers, which highlights queer women pursuing creative careers and showcases a strong emotional growth arc.”– Library Journal

Thanks to the author, Kensington, RB Media and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review* A fiercely funny, super sexy story about believing in your dreams, finding your chosen family, and letting yourself be loved. It's very rare for me to feel a connection to a main character when I have almost nothing in common with them but I felt like the author wrote her in such a way that was so so well and I really enjoyed it when it was her POV. I adored her confidence as a fat woman and how she didn't really care that much on the public opinion. Again, I loved how she went after her dream and chose something to make herself happy. Nina annoyed me a little for how she behaved, but I’ve been in a relationship with a narcissist so I get how Taylor her ex made her think about herself. She needed a huge shake to stop believing what she said is true. Aside from that I really enjoyed her character. Now Ari, she was amazing, she adored Nina and really made her start thinking good things about herself again. She was up for anything and really just loved living her life.Spalding’s adult debut is an optimistic, empathetic choice for readers, which highlights queer women pursuing creative careers and showcases a strong emotional growth arc.”

Next to being absolutely clueless Nina excelled at self sabotage. I guess if someone convinces you that you’re toxic you actually become toxic… So Nina had assumed things would eventually go to shit, they obviously did and she didn’t try to stop them.
