About this deal

This engrossing book by Michael Morpurgo has a poignant storyline about a close-knit family living on the island of Bryher in the Isles of Scilly. K. in 1997, this novella, billed as a sequel to Morpurgo's War Horse, reads more like a tender epilogue. But Laura is still determined to achieve her dream and when a wrecked ship and a ferocious storm give her the chance to do this and save the island, she takes it. Morpurgo (The War of Jenkins' Ear) spins a tale as compelling as it is unusual in its setting and plot. However, the author keeps the characters very real and as a reader, I felt very involved in their lives.

They have four milking cows, which is enough to keep the entire population of the island supplied with milk. I was especially struck by Laura and Granny May's kindness and compassion in saving the dying turtle when they had been hungry for days and the turtle could have made a filling meal.Though it is a short little story, I find it an immense pleasure to read even now, I am all grown up. Sans être une robinsonnade, ce roman combine aventure, naufrage et état stationnaire sur les rives d'une île, des thèmes dont l'auteur m'avait déjà habitué dans "Le royaume de Kensuké". A distinguished British pair brings on the violins for this sentimental story built atop the Holocaust.

I enjoyed reading this short book about the life of Laura, a girl living on a desolate island in the early 20th century. The book has some other interesting parts relating to Laura - the great aunt of Micheal who has recently passed away and in her will, has left him a diary. They have three farms in Devon, Wales and Gloucestershire, open to inner city school children who come to stay and work with the animals.

As he did with his WWI-era novel Private Peaceful, Morpurgo once again sets up a framing story for this tender novel about a family living through WWII in rural England. No girl on any of the Scilly Isles has been an oarsman on a gig and no daughter of his is going to be the first. Following their Robin of Sherwood and Arthur, High King of Britain, Morpurgo and Foreman turn their talents to historical fiction about the Maid of Orl ans.
