Jill Murphy's brilliant tale, Whatever Next is an exciting space-themed story to share with your EYFS or KS1 class. As you are watching or reading the story together, encourage your child to talk about what they can see on the page, or point to the pictures as you say what you can see.Draw a picture from the point of view of one of the passengers on the plane who sees Baby Bear and Owl flying up to the moon. Sometimes you become stuck and just need someone else to give you a focus and this does all of that. This also includes a week planning of inviting guests to a picnic on the moon, writing invitations, designing their own picnic and acting out a moon landing. Use the wonderful 'Whatever Next' story by Jill Murphy to complete this lovely adult lead activity - what would you want to take to the moon with you?

We had a lovely time with Whatever Next- first I read the story to Miles, then we read it again with his dad there too and Miles loved telling him what was happening and showing him the animals. Give children a large piece of paper and paints or crayons to paint a picture of their journey to the moon.

We had a good chat about who might live in the holes on the moon and I think he was surprised to find that Baby Bear didn't find anyone there. Songs and rhymes: Sing these rhymes about space and space travel: Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, and Hey Diddle Diddle. We talked about imagination and how we could use different things to pretend - we do a lot of duplo and painting but don't play many imaginative games, so it was very helpful to have this prompt.
