Elements of the previous format, such as guest stars and music, were retained, with narration added in for scenes focused entirely on the puppets; story-telling was also retained, but phased out over the 1980s. Sooty has now been around for over 70 years, but has always been 5 years of age and still continues to entertain audiences to this day. She was originally voiced by Harry's wife Marjorie Corbett until 1981, whereupon after the show's format changed, she was voiced by Brenda Longman until the show's conclusion in 1992. This featured Sooty and friends on various instruments playing alongside Musical Director Alan Braden and his band. in the same period he did, and then Vicki Lee Taylor from 2001-2003, who had previously worked on The Queen's Nose. In the early to mid 1960s, there were at least five Sooty annuals published by the London Daily Mirror.The Sooty Show is a British children's television series, created by Harry Corbett, [1] and produced for the BBC from 1955 to 1967, and then for ITV from 1968 until 1992. His trademark voice of bizarre squeaks was achieved by his original puppeteer Leslie Corbett, through a reed from a saxophone in his mouth to create the sounds.

The children's television show which bears the same name and has featured the character since the 1950s was, according to the Guinness Book of Records, the longest-running children's programme in the UK. The character's design was towards being a foil for both Sooty and Sweep, but with a motherly-like nature to her personality. In both formats, guests are featured in episodes, alongside the involvement of prop items for gunging and making messes of human performers and guest stars. Matthew carried on Harry's tradition of ending every show with the line "Bye bye everybody, bye bye", and in Matthew's final ever episode, his final scene was a collection of him saying the immortal words from the preceding years. The programme itself was later made available on VHS and DVD, featuring episodes from primarily the 1980s to 1990s.The format was maintained by Harry when the programme moved from the BBC to ITV in 1968, and later by Matthew, upon becoming a regular in 1974, after taking over from his father following his retirement in 1975, though with Harry retaining a guest capacity in episodes. For the first half of the tours, Matthew and Connie Creighton would present, and during the second half, while Matthew was busy writing and filming the TV shows, Connie and Spencer K. In 2009, Sooty along with Sweep and Soo appeared in Peter Kay's Animated All Star Band music video on "Children in Need".
