About this deal

His new home is billed as a town where "nothing ever happens," but Ari Thor soon learns that is far from the truth.

You know this sucker isn't going to be a sweet little storm but of course I had to know what was going to happen.I completely fell in love with the landscape Ragnar so deftly describes, and I was equally drawn in by his ability as a storyteller. But the author settles into a page-turning groove, emulating his hero, Agatha Christie (14 of whose novels he's translated into Icelandic), by skillfully switching points of view and casting about for murder motives. Selected as one of the debuts of the year (Crime Fiction Lover) and one of the books of the year by Bolo Books, Off the Shelf Books, Reading Room with a View, Crime Thriller Girl, Steph's Book Blog and, Grab This Book, and as one of the series of the year by Bibliophile Book Club. Although I felt that the climax section of the book got a bit repetitive, I still felt like I needed a box of popcorn and a bag of Sour Patch Kids for this exciting horror matinee!

Sweeping Nordic landscapes, snowstorm-induced claustrophobia, and a cast of characters reminiscent of Agatha Christie: Ragnar Jónasson's debut mystery meets all my requirements for a moody, engrossing Nordic Nordic noir read.He paints a vivid picture of an isolated, remote town; his writing does justice to the desolate beauty of an Icelandic landscape. McBride subtly but perfectly incorporates his "horror elements" (avoiding spoilers) and uses the landscape to increase the tension which I think is even more thrilling and terrifying then a story that uses a bunch of over-the-top unrealistic elements. Ragnar Jónasson is a new name in the crime writing genre and I urge anyone who is a fan of Nordic crime noir to rush out and get yourself a copy of Snowblind this you will want to add to your collection. in " The BookBrowse Review" - BookBrowse's membership magazine, and in our weekly " Publishing This Week" newsletter.

Prior to becoming a professor he also had a brief stint in television and radio and worked as a reporter for the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service. Jónasson skillfully alternates points of view and shifts of time that set in relief Ari Thór's efforts to find a purpose to his lonely life. McBride here serves up a fast-paced, tension-filled survival horror about four friends on a hunting trip who get trapped up a mountain as they are hunted by . I can’t think of another novel where snow, in all of its various manifestations, has ever been described so accurately or completely. For a novella size work there is just enough character development to get a vested interest in the characters welfare and his tension building in a short period of time is perfect! In addition to being an author, Ragnar is also a lawyer and university professor teaching Copyright Law at the Reykjavik University. I found myself feeling anxious and antsy as I read descriptions of the mountains surrounding the town seeming to press down on Ari Thor in his mind.
