About this deal

This is now the sixth mount that these lenses have become available in, following the initial introduction for Sony E mount and Micro Four Thirds, followed by Canon EOS M, Leica L and most recently Fujifilm X (which most of this review is based on).

the bokeh balls of the Sigma lens start to take on the shape of the 9 blade aperture whereas those of the Olympus remain quite round. I’m sure it wasn’t easy to achieve this bokeh taste, which is not only beautiful, but also massive and not by any means artificial. It's bright and wide enough that you'll be able to shoot handheld and get crisp images without stabilization. If you take a look at the image above, you will learn how powerful the combination of 24mm equivalent and F1.Do not power OFF the camera and ensure the USB cable is properly connected during the data transfer. With your ear to the lens, you can hear the high pitch noise of the AF motors whirring as they move, but in normal use, you won’t.

Nothing compared to a dedicated portrait lens, sure, but there were many situations where I could throw the background out-of-focus at F1.In summary, this is an unprecedented lens that combines outstanding optical performance with exceptional portability and usability. Bokeh is a word used for the out-of-focus areas of a photograph, and is usually described in qualitative terms, such as smooth / creamy / harsh etc. I wish I could have finished talking about the appeal of this lens in the last paragraph, but I had to explain the position of this lens first.

The lens design fully accommodates the Fast Hybrid AF of Sony E-mount cameras for super-fast autofocus functionality. In addition, the structure of the optical system gently bends light to minimize sagittal coma flare and deliver optimal optical performance from the center of the frame to the edges. Below, here is a swipe gallery of bokeh comparisons along with a small set of portraiture for your consideration.Switch the ring back into AF mode and it turns indefinitely like that of the Sigma, even when the camera set to manual focus in the menu. SIGMA lenses with “DC” in the name are designed for optimal performance on cameras with APS-C image sensors.

So sharpness is absolutely bonkers, but what about any optical quirks and flaws like distortion, CA, vignette, or flaring? Contemporary is a crop-sensor lens, sold in both Sony APS-C E-mount and Micro Four Thirds varieties. The Sigma 16mm, whose focal length equates to 32mm in 35mm format, offers a marginally wider field of view in comparison to the M. he message appears even when the software and the lens are appropriate, close the Lens System Software Updater and remove the cable and power OFF the camera. There are various special lens elements, including 2 moulded glass aspheric, 2 SLD (Super Low Dispersion) and 3 FLD (Fluorite-like Low Dispersion). When the focus ring of the 17mm is snapped back into MF mode, it only moves between the focusing limits. But if you shoot a lot of handheld video, it's best to pair it with a body with sensor-based stabilization. Despite featuring premium-grade all-metal housing, the 17mm lens is nearly four times lighter than the 16mm, with visibly more compact dimensions. on the Olympus), the 17mm looks ever so slightly sharper but the difference is barely worth mentioning. Vignetting is an effect whereby the corners appear darker than the centre of the image, and is quite common to fast-aperture wide-angle primes such as the 16mm and 17mm.
