We liked the window squeegee attachment – it got our windows sparklingly clean – while the round brush is handy for scrubbing hobs and cookers, as it lifted grease easily. If you want to do a range of different jobs, a handheld or something like the Dupray neat (more on that below) is going to be better for you. Smaller steam cleaners will heat up faster, but that also means you may have to refill your water tank more often, perhaps in the middle of your chores. Weight/size – While it may seem like a good decision to get a bigger cleaner, as you can cover more ground without having to fill up as often, you may find the compact designs can really get in those nooks and crannies and are easier on the arms. And that includes the slightly annoying faff of having to unplug the steam cleaner, as we ran out of flex.

The steam shot feels the most premium of all the handheld steam cleaners we tested – it just feels well made. Only small complaint, watch out for the cord, if it gets caught in the rotating, it will suck up the cord and keep on spinning and tangle it. We found that the fabric attachment was pretty good at getting stubborn stains out of carpets but, as the reservoir is 250ml, it’s best for spot stains rather than attempting to clean a wider surface area. Both the amount of steam generated and the rotational speed of the scrubbing pads are controlled by each of the Cleaning Modes, with “Deep” cleaning mode producing the most steam (and consuming water fastest) and using the highest scrubbing speed.

It’s easy to assemble – the steam mop handle and steam mop body slot together, although you’ll need a flathead screwdriver to secure them in place.

Shark Steam Scrubber with Steam Blast S7201 - QVC UK

Is the slow and laborious sanitizing process which is specified in the User Manual actually practical when performing routine housecleaning? However, as of this juncture, we find it easier and faster to use a conventional mop, which leaves the floors at least as clean, and also leaves the air smelling better. We’d been highly sceptical about the cleaner’s ability to tackle oven grime, but we were seriously impressed. As we have hardwood on one floor and carpet on another, it was good to know it could cover all bases. The triangle tool was amazing at lifting stubborn stains out of our carpet without leaving a huge amount of water soaked into it.

Tilting the handle back towards the operator activates the motor which drives the rotating scrubbing pads. Trust us: manual mops will look truly primitive once you’ve got to grips with this dirt-busting miracle machine. The water reservoir is very easy to fill because it takes so little water and thankfully there is no dirty water reservoir to drain. Select reviewers may receive discounted products, promotional considerations or entries into drawings for honest, helpful reviews. Even with the integral alignment aid, the scrubbing pads do not center absolutely perfectly, which results in minor oscillation of the mop head while in operation.
