From the outside, the Shark NZ850UKT doesn’t look too different to the previous Lift-Away cleaners that I’ve tested. I tested the Shark NZ850UKT with my standard tools to measure performance in airwatts (AW), an industry standard that combines both suction and airflow. The Anti-Hair Wrap feature actively separates and removes hair from the brush roll as you clean, so you don’t have to. This is far more convenient, as you can quickly start and stop the vacuum as you’re moving around, rather than having to move around. I’m pleased to say that everything in the cleaner’s path was picked up and no grains of rice dropped out at the end. With the Shark NZ801UKT, the vacuum had fiddly accessory holders at the back, which required you to line up the notch on the holder with the cutout on the tool; if you didn’t, the tools would drop out.

There’s also a car detailing kit, full of tiny attachments and brushes for getting into all of the nooks and crannies in your car (or anywhere else, for that matter). With the bin removed, you can reach the main filter; there’s a second post-motor HEPA filter at the bottom. Simply select a setting using the handle control and the brush roll speed will adjust for the perfect clean. With lots of power, flexible cleaning and cleverly designed controls, the Shark NZ850UKT is a great vacuuum cleaner for all jobs. With the NZ690UKTDB, Lift-Away mode takes the wand with it, but leaves the floor head behind; on newer models with Powered Lift-Away, the cylinder can be removed, leaving the wand attached to the floor head.

Using a slightly older design, the Shark NZ690UKTDB isn’t quite as easy to manoeuvre and use as the company’s newer models.
