About this deal

It’s worth remembering that because the 48CX packs the same resolution as the 55CX into a smaller panel, pixel density is actually increased, and that makes the image look even more solid and three-dimensional, although you need to be sitting quite close to the screen to appreciate that benefit. That’s because the viewing is best without too many of the brightness boosters that would otherwise blow out all of the detail. At the top are three blocks for information (or adverts), followed by what’s trending, a row of all the apps, the Home Dashboard with all the connected devices, a row showing new releases and, finally, rows dedicated to specific apps.

Taking a quick look at BBC News 24, we’re happy to report that this LG’s performance at SD is typical of any 4K set asked to upscale such a huge amount. There’s also a couple of brand new systems to enjoy such as Scene Detection, which will optimise the picture on-the-fly according to what kind of scene it thinks is being presented, and Auto Volume levelling, which will ensure that the sound levels are consistent between sources. Playing Horizon Zero Dawn on the PS4 allowed the C1 to demonstrate all of its gaming strengths – from smooth motion and detailed images to the precisely delivered metallic gleam of the robots.Of far less value than Dolby Vision IQ is Filmmaker Mode, another new feature added to LG’s 2020 OLEDs. In terms of dimensions, this 65in TV measures 1,449mm wide and 862mm high, while the stand is 998mm wide and 251mm deep. It’s still voice-enabled and we’re still not entirely in love with the way that the scroll wheel doubles as a slightly unstable select button, but let’s not pick nits here. Sometimes the pixels can show colours incorrectly or sometimes they can be dead, which appear black. One thing I was surprised not to read on the review is the fact it can output at 120Hz and directly supports the latest game consoles at high refresh rates in 4K.

If you worry about you and your family’s eyes, LG OLED TVs provide a more comfortable way to watch for longer. The LG C1 continues to use the same basic design as previous generations, with a minimalist appearance, a virtually bezel-free screen and a sloping brushed-metal stand.
