More than 2,700 names were considered before Oakheart was selected, a process that took more than two years. The majority of products belong to the personal care industry with a total of 5,788 products to date.

The winner, Oakheart, is a reference to the charred American white oak barrels that house the rum while it ages.

The Oakheart name was developed in collaboration with thousands of consumers and hundreds of bartenders. This spiced rum is aged for 1 to 2 years, filtered using a proprietary process, and then flavored with various spices including maple, nutmeg, cinnamon and honey. While it’s a spiced rum, the spice is a role player to the other soft and slightly sweet flavors in the rum. Bacardi Oakheart is labeled as a “smooth” spiced rum, and true to its name it’s a lot softer, smoother, and tamer than most of the other spiced rums we’ve tried. The thing about a product like this though, is that I find it to sweet to mix, and inadequate as a sipper.
