Description

The pharmaceutical companies were making great discoveries, and medical knowledge was advancing rapidly.

Netter began his long collaboration with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals). But his collection of specimens is housed in the Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons in London. Jan Stephen van Kalkar, pupil of the master Venetian painter Titian, most likely prepared a good number of the illustrations in Venice, and even Titian himself possibly did some. Or better yet, if you want to see the structure from different angles you can check our atlas, and if you want to see how well you know the flashcards (and not only), you can attempt one of the quizzes! Quickly following on the success of the fold-up heart, fold-up versions of other organs were produced. For students and clinical professionals who are learning anatomy, participating in a dissection lab, sharing anatomy knowledge with patients, or refreshing their anatomy knowledge, the Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy illustrates the body, region by region, in clear, brilliant detail from a clinician’s perspective. CIBA then collected these illustrations in book form, producing the CIBA Collection of Medical Illustrations, which ultimately comprised 8 volumes (13 books). However, they mostly depict this utopic anatomic specimen that simply doesn’t exist anywhere in the world.

These illustrations were distributed to physicians as cards in a folder, with advertising for CIBA products on the inside of the folder, and were also popular with physicians. Bringing world-renowned, exquisitely clear views of the human body by two uniquely talented physician-artists Dr. Leonardo went deeper into the viscera, and sought to understand the function of the underlying structures, rather than merely their existence. is enhanced with an interactive label quiz option and supplemented with "Plate Pearls" that provide quick key points of the major themes of each plate.

Alternatively, you can watch one of our anatomy tutors explain the topic in one of our videos from the comfort of your own chair. Frank Henry Netter was born in Manhattan at 53rd Street and Seventh Avenue, and grew up wanting to be an artist.

Born into a family of physicians, Andreas Vesalius of Brussels studied in France, and became a physician. During the time that Hunter was compiling his atlas, the Royal Librarian Richard Dalton rediscovered, in the collection at Windsor, the lost and unpublished Leonardo da Vinci anatomical drawings. Now translated into 16 languages, it is the anatomy atlas of choice among medical and health professions students the world over.Of course, many of the great painters and sculptors of the time, including Michelangelo, Raphael, and Albrecht Durer, did their own dissections to learn what lay beneath the skin so as to better portray the human figure, but they were mostly concerned with the surface anatomy. Leonardo organized his notes and illustrations into manuscript form, but did not publish them in his lifetime. On the other hand, the collection is scarily complex in terms of the amount of information included, the images are not the most realistic, their aims feel unorganised, and the cards are organized by regions, to name a few. Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy: Classic Regional Approach— hardback Professional Edition with downloadable image bank for personal use. Through the centuries, these and other major contributors to the advancement of science have skillfully illustrated their observations.
