About this deal

I'm not sure if they ever made these for the USN or not (didn't really look into it), but it has a very classic look. I'm now on my second one of these after I outgrew the first, I bought that coat around the same time I re-discovered the gym after lockdown so I only wore it for one winter before it became way too tight in the chest, but it was a no brainer that I’d eventually get another one. This jacket is a little tight in the shoulder region, and when I bend over at the waist, I sometimes hear "popping" sounds from the shoulder seams, which I take as sewed seams stretching.

One minor point is that this is an 80/20 wool blend, and not 100% Melton wool as I expected from the item description. The 32oz wool on this peacoat is combined with the quilted lining will keep you warm in some of the harshest conditions around. This coat upgrades the standard issue peacoat with additional flap pockets in the sides and a flap to secure the raised collar against winds. The term ‘Pea Jacket’ is reputed to first appear in the Oxford English Dictionary between 1717 and 1723. Consignments without the sender's address will not be processed and they will be disposed of after 60 days.A "bridge coat" is a pea coat that extends to the thighs, and is a uniform exclusively for officers and chief petty officers. The old Peacoats had those too, so I'm glad to see this one in keeping with that old-school tradition. A quality heavyweight jacket, very well made, fully lined, double breasted with 2 front side pockets and 2 inside pockets (one zipped, the other with velcro), center vent, small label tag on one upper arm, label embroidered on the back collar. S. Navy through the 1970s by the rougher black Melton cloth (also lightly treated), a lighter wool that requires a quilted lining to match the warmth of the original Kersey. I had this jacket on the past few days and nights to see if it lived up to the well deserved peacoat reputation as a cold weather garment, and the 782 doesn't come through.

I'm a little disappointing because I can really tell a difference with the synthetic fibers mixed in. Doctor Who features leather peacoats being worn by the Doctor during his eighth and ninth incarnations. Quality heavyweight warm wool blend women's pea coat, classic double breasted cut in dark navy blue with side slant pockets, traditional nautical anchor designed buttons, no back vent and fully lined with internal zipped pocket. According to a 1975 edition of The Mariner's Mirror, the term "pea coat" originated from the Dutch or West Frisian word pijjekker or pijjakker, in which pij referred to the type of cloth used, a coarse kind of twilled blue cloth with a nap on one side. The success of the style is proved by its singularly universal appearance throughout the Navies of Europe.I live in the Pacific northwest, so I don't need the quilted lining, and it would definitely be too warm for the winters that we have here.

The fit is more generous in the torso but it does not feel baggy or bulky and allows for free movement and layering in really cold temps. I have another pea coat that is a cheaper aftermarket version and there is no comparison in the quality and the fit. The Royal Navy's first regulations for uniforms for other ranks were issued in 1857, a century after the regulations for officers and this garment was originally used by Midshipmen (Reefers). Another theory, favoured by the US Navy, is that the heavy topcoat worn in cold, miserable weather by seafaring men was once tailored from "pilot cloth" — a heavy, coarse, stout kind of twilled blue cloth with the nap on one side. These are nice additions, and the construction is excellent, but the added cost, in my opinion, is not justified. The difference between the two is you get 2 lined handwarmer pockets at mid chest, 2 vertical flapped pockets (they're large! A black leather version of the reefer jacket was worn by Kriegsmarine U-boat officers during World War II, including Admiral Dönitz.
