As part of Pyjamarama in 2020, we were thrilled to be able to give away 50,000 copies of My Pet Star by Corrinne Averiss and Rosalind Beardshaw to families through food banks, refuges and more. If you have any leftover tissue paper or ribbon lying around the house, you can turn your crafts into shooting stars by gluing thin trails to the bottom of your creations.

The book reminded me a little of another: “Mole's Star” by Britta Teckentrup which is also a picture book with the same sort of concept of stars coming out of the sky and being on Earth. Bob Staake’s exuberant tale of a little boy and the pet of his dreams will appeal to anyone whose best friends are… books!The subtle mention of not being able to read the story book but able to look at the pictures instead is a powerful message that supports inclusion and focuses on the positives. Despite their differences, there is much the star doesn’t enjoy doing, the girl is kind and caring and when the time comes, she is able to give the star the thing it needs to make it the happiest star of all.

You could draw a Pet Star, other night-themed characters, or anything you want to take part in your story. She is the author of Joy, Hope, Sorrel and the Sleepover, The Boy on the Bench and Floss the Playground Boss, with a further three titles publishing in 2021.There's not many songs to chose from, but I see they told someone new songs are released on Fridays.

Disclaimer: I received this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review as part of their blog tour.The story gently shares that sometimes we do need to let go but the young girl does so in knowing that she looked after the star so well. The flowing rhyming text makes the book a great pick for a read aloud and the illustrations will be sure to engage readers, I absolutely love them. Fix them to the window with a bit of sticky tape or blue tac, with the baking paper side facing out. Create a map of Smartytown and add labels to show the different parts of the story that take place in each location. A rhyming story of a child who find a fallen star and picks it up and shines it up and lets it go back into the sky after the kindness and the star is back to its old self. Rhyming text and gentle storytelling help make this the perfect book for bedtime or snuggling up with; it feels like a really special story and is a joy to read. In winter 2020/2021 BookTrust Cymru sent out thousands of copies of the wonderful Fy Seren Anwes/My Pet Star by Corrinne Averiss and Rosalind Beardshaw (Welsh adaptation by Anni Llŷn) to libraries and other partners who gifted them to families in Wales.Not necessarily a problem, but the circles don't fit my dogs ears (they are long) and being able to change that would be great, but that's only a really minor issue. Will be helpful to illustrate a child’s circumstances without directly speaking of any adverse experiences.
