About this deal

It also comes with exceptionally strong and well-written characters who are easy to relate to and love. Ruth Jones: Yes, absolutely – I like this idea of exploring life and different stages of your life; how things are, and the difference in attitudes in generations that come with it.

Grace doesn’t want a traditional celebration for her birthday, but her granddaughter Elin has other ideas. I was completely captivated by this character-driven story of mother/daughter relationships and really cared about the characters; I was genuinely sad to finish it and leave them all behind. Stacey happens to be your everyday girl from South Wales while Gavin is your everyday boy from Essex. The characters in this one generally are likeable accept Alys making me warm to the writing of her even more.Thank you to NetGalley, Random House and the author Ruth Jones for the opportunity to review this wonderful book. I really enjoy reading Ruth Jones novels, they make such a refreshing change from the gritty thrillers I also enjoy. I tend not to have villains, and I still believe in the whole thing that there is a little bit of good in the worst of us and a little bit of bad in the best of us.

Meanwhile Grace's great -grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own. Is she strong enough to reach out to her wayward daughter, now seventy years old, and heal the rift? After she was cast in Saxondale as Steve Coogan’s wife, she teamed up with James and together they wrote and starred in Gavin and Stacey the Bafta Award-winning work. It is such a well written book, with the characters being fully formed and believable, it had me rooting for the best outcome for them all.Elin, Becca’s mother is a headteacher, organised and knows what is best for everyone; her husband, her daughter and even her grandmother. Rich in warm, engaging characters and a judicious mix of humour and pathos for which Jones is renowned, it’s a compassionate, wise and life-affirming book. After the work got a lot of popularity and became a Sunday Times bestseller, she was offered a two-book deal. Over the years, Ruth has won many accolades and awards that include three BAFTA Cymru awards, the Ultimate Women of the Year Award by Cosmopolitan, and the British Comedy Award.

Her novels are full of wonderful characters and the stories so well written, much in the same vein as Graham Norton. Following her tour in 1989, Ruth suffered a severe lack of work and ultimately had to settle for a job as a Kensington clerical assistant on a temporary basis, so that she could get money to fund her passion. Also I loved that it is set in Wales, with such familiar and comforting use of the Welsh language and idioms, so reminiscent of my own upbringing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but I didn't find myself gripped like I did with her others. In 2004, she got roles in “Nighty Night,” the black comedy series in addition to acting in “Little Britain,” the smash TV show.It is a joy-filled, life-affirming, sob-inducing novel - with characters you'll come to know and love from no. Female characters that cross over many generations always makes for a great read, and in this novel from Ruth Jones, her latest that is no exception. Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is filled with Ruth Jones’s warmth and wisdom.

Ruth's second novel, Us Three, was an instant Sunday Times bestseller in hardback and paperback and has sold almost a quarter of a million copies.Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One's Gavin and Stacey, which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins. Grace doesn’t like a lot of fuss, so a surprise party to celebrate her reaching ninety is not going to be well received. Welsh royalty and actress turned best-selling author Ruth Jones releases her third book Love Untold, a warm, joyous and heartbreaking generation-spanning novel. Despite her age Grace swims daily, either in the hideous swimming pool in her garden or wild swimming in the sea, and does yoga several times a week.
