Along with the stylish killings,Walker also gives the movie a good Film Noir touch,as Jenny Welch (played by a terrific Susan Penhaligon) continues to walk round in her long raincoat,pulling those around her into the trouble that she finds her self in,that leads to Walker giving the movie an amazingly harsh,brutal and nihilistic ending that shows the saints and sinners of the village all ending up in the same bleak place.With the previous release Frightmare featuring a murderous old lady at the helm, it would seem there was not much further Walker could go to raise the bar on shock value. Deciding to stay for confession,Jenny begins to tell Meldrum about the feelings that she still has for her ex-boyfriend. I bought this movie as part of the Pete Walker Collection, a wonderful coffin shaped boxset containing this movie, along with FRIGHTMARE, THE HOUSE OF MORTAL SIN, THE HOUSE OF WHIPCORD and DIE SCREAMING MARIANNE. As always with Pete Walker there's beautiful women, in this case sexy Stephanie Beacham and the very cute Susan Penhaligon, but sadly not much in the way of nudity, or gore for that matter, it's one of Walkers tamer efforts, as if he was aiming for mainstream respectability!
