Archibald, affectionately known to the team as ‘Grumpy Archie’, is an Irishman who takes his whiskey very seriously, right up until he doesn’t. Where things fall down somewhere are on the palate, as rather than either side dominating or stretching out to a lead, I find there’s still a tactical discussion taking place. Today, our heavily peated, wonderfully smoky whisky is available in three bottlings – Peated, Red and 18yo. Ginger nut biscuits and then a little vanilla cream from the bourbon casks and eventually a hint of the famous Campbeltown funk.

Sweet and tropical on the nose, notes of baked pineapple, lemon sherbert, honeycomb and dried orange peel introduce this light and delicate dram. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. Founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, Glengyle suffered along with the other major Campbeltown distilleries during its downturn and eventually ceased production in 1925. It offers layers and an example of where the PX cask hasn’t dominated the distillate, which you rarely see nowadays.

Kilkerran 8-Year-Old: This whisky features an aroma of peat and green apple, an earthy, salty flavour with hints of icing sugar, and a smooth finish. Underneath there's a little vanilla and honey sweetness coming through, it's reminiscent of pear drops, that mix of sweet and sour fruit. Same tingle sensation from mouthwash, if you had a sip of this when you were sleepy it would wake you up with a smack.Sadly though the genie is well and truly out of the bottle when it comes to Springbank and it’s unlikely to ever be put back in.
