That sounds unlikely, if not downright impossible, but truly, the first thing I noticed after moving from vacuum mode to mopping mode by switching out the Fluffy Optic head designed for use on hard flooring for the Submarine wet roller head was how the machine glided across the floors with virtually no effort on my part. The mop head attachment features a low profile, which allows it to clean underneath beds, sofas, and other furniture. The Dyson Hard is a mop and vacuum combination cleaner with a flat, removable wipe-based mop head sandwiched between a pair of narrow vacuum channels.
If it was the other way around, perhaps the unsealed compartment wouldn’t have been such a bother and I could empty the dirty water after mopping each room (which, again, is not ideal). It comes with all the attachments you might need for a carpet or hard floors, sans the mop of course, plus great suction too. While we would have liked to have seen more standard vacuum add-ons bundled, this addition does make the Hard an even more multi-purpose device.The handstick’s LED display shows the clean water level only, meaning there’s no way to know how much dirty water is collecting. If the roller head had not been quite so wet, I believe it would have been better able to pick up that sludge; as it was, it took several passes over the same area for the microfiber roller to pick up the dirt it deposited onto the floor.
What’s more, liquid sucked up by the vacuum elements caused more solid pickup to clump in the cleaning channels, creating a goopy mess.
After use, the Submarine wet roller head will have a chamber full of dirty floor water that needs to be dumped out; the microfiber roller — which is designed to pick up dirt and debris, and which does that job very well — needs to be rinsed; and the extraction plate needs to be wiped clean. He went on to explain he’d seen other videos raving about the unofficial attachment, explaining it works by removing the vacuum’s regular brush head and replacing it with a mop you add water to. Because the V15s Detect Submarine is so similar in design and function to the V15 Detect, it feels like a no-brainer that owners of the older model should be able to purchase the Submarine wet roller head to use with their existing vacuum. Cleaning the bin is the same as before, although you will still need to watch out for the hair that gets tangled around the bin’s inner metal cylinder – these can be hard to remove and, as before, not the most hygienic cleaning method as Dyson would have us believe.
Everything else is inherited from the other Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners – the HEPA filter on the top is washable, as are the rollers on the Submarine and Fluffy Optics.However, spills with smaller bits of food, like rice, can be mopped up easily by the Submarine, but you will need to give it a good wash and allow it to dry fully before using it again. If Dyson can figure out how to fix these issues, the next iteration of the Submarine would be a formidable cleaning tool. Although offering sparkling hard floors following a number of swipes, the Hard impressed but did not excel in early tests. If you don’t need a mop attachment but still want what I consider the best Dyson, then consider the V15 Detect Absolute.
It is a heavy machine, though, but is worth considering if you predominantly have hard floors at home. Now, however, a boxy mop head has been plonked on the other end, instead of a standard vacuum cleaner component. No matter which model you choose, the star of the show is the brand-new Submarine wet roller head that’s been designed to handle wet and dry spills. Not only will it remove debris from the floor, but the mop pads will also wipe the surface, giving it a thorough clean. Even with water filled, the roller’s movement begins to pull the handstick as soon as you press the power trigger, so moving it along a hard floor is very easy. Dyson has issued a warning over a viral trend that’s seen owners of their vacuum cleaners attaching “fake” mop heads to clean their floors. It also comes with several attachments, including an auto-empty station that sucks out any dust and dirt, including hair, in seconds. There’s no way to know how much mop water is filling up in the compartment behind the roller as the display only shows how much clean water you have left to work with.
