Smooth and herbaceous, tonic helps bring out the more complex and oily citrus notes of this impressive, peppery spirit. This is the finished product after a process that includes 30 days barrel-ageing and a filtration process with charcoal. Whether you're after a bottle to make tequila and tonics, an authentic tequila or want to try something new with mezcal or sotol, we've got the bottle for you.

I have recently been handed a challenge by Proof Drinks to come up with some tasty recipes using four different products: Cazcabel Honey, Cazcabel Coffee, Cazcabel Blanco and Sloane’s Gin. Other tequilas – especially pure versions, made with 100% agave – can be enjoyed in a short glass with ice. Add Cazcabel Honey, sage and blackberries into a champagne flute, stir to release the flavours, top up with prosecco. Cazcabel Coffee blends a roasted, sweet hit of luxury coffee to the spirit with chocolate and vanilla notes. Notes of sweet vanilla, toffee popcorn and black pepper mark this out as excellent example of an añejo tequila.Cazcabel Honey Tequila 70cl, a premium honey liqueur made with the finest tequila blessed by the mythical mexican curador, Don Cazcabel, the 'Snakeman' of the Jalisco mountains. With the fresh, earthy and dry Blanco at its heart, Cazcabel Honey adds a dose of sweet nectar to the blend. Cazcabel Tequila is inspired by the mythical Mexican Curador “Don Cazcabel”, the “Snakeman” of the Jalisco Mountains. Fortaleza Reposado is dry at points but also bursting with citrus, full of sticky sweetness with caramel and toffee ahead of orchard fruits.

Don’s philosophy is all about taking natural ingredients from the land and giving them new meaning and life through his work. With the fresh, earthy and dry Blanco at its heart, Cazcabel Honey adds a dose of sweet nectar to the blend. Made from nothing but pure agave, this premium bottle is named after the year the company first began barrel-ageing the spirit. Some tequilas are ideal for cocktails: start with a classic margarita or try a colourful tequila sunrise with grenadine and orange juice. Whilst I played with different combinations, my personal tasting panel helped to choose the winners.Cazcabel Reposado, rested in American oak barrels for 8 months and balances the beautiful, clean and earthy agave flavour of the double distilled Blanco with the complex but subtle aromas of toasted Oak. A unique aspect of this tequila is that it seems to be adored by tequila lovers and tequila novices alike.

One thing’s for sure - it’s been around since the 1930s and always made with the same three base ingredients. Shake all the ingredients with ice and strain into a rocks glass over some more ice and then garnish with an orange peel and pineapple leaf. Fill a tall glass with ice, add all ingredients, stir and add a few more ice cubes before topping up with prosecco. This example shows how different it can taste from tequila, with smoky elements and an earthy undertone. Usually, tequila lovers would find the added ingredients overly sweet, but as the flavour is so authentic it isn’t sickeningly sweet, with one reviewer saying: “If you’re a tequila lover, you need this for your collection” and another adding “I challenge anyone who says they do not like tequila to try this one.

He has previously written about the best drinks for The Independent, The i and Evening Standard, more often than not waxing lyrical about Islay whiskies. The white tequila goes through a 40-day ageing process, leaving behind a smooth taste and agave flavour that works wonderfully in cocktails like a Paloma or just to sip slowly and soak up its warmth. Jose Cuervo Tradicional Silver is a premium offering from this mammoth distillery – it's a slick, 100 per cent agave spirit that has well-balanced smoothness and sweetness. This is a blanco, so its gone through the fewest steps to produce and is aged for only two months - but it’s still miles better for cocktails than anything with a worm in it. If you want something bigger and more refreshing, serve as part of classic cocktails like Palomas, Tequila Sunrises and Piña de Oros.
