Storage Less Efficient than it Should Be – The handles on the Bosch Rotak 34 R are supposed to fold down to reduce the size of the storage footprint of this mower, which in theory is a handy feature. This lets you move the mower around without your movements being restricted, and most UK lawns are close enough to the property that 10m of cable should offer all the reach you need – simply use an extension cord if you are finding its movements too restrictive.
Use the higher range of height settings for when grass is longer and the shorter settings when the length isn’t too long and you’ll have the perfect finish each time. Some, but not all electric lawnmowers include a rear roller to give your lawn that professional striped finish. Jury is Out on Those Red Combs – One of the other innovative features of the Rotak mowers are those bright red “combs” that you see either side of the mower. This mower is the updated version of the Bosch Rotak 34, the larger cousin of the Bosch Rotak 32R, and the smaller cousin of the Bosch Rotak 36R. You can certainly use it on larger lawns too – it’s recommended for anything up to 300smq – but this will take a lot longer to mow compared to a model with a wider cutting deck.
A 34cm cutting width is a good size for any small garden, while also being suitable for mid-sized gardens. The hardened, ground steel blade has a cut width of 34 cm, and there are 6 cut height settings to choose from, ranging between 10 and 70 mm. It may be difficult to tell the difference between Bosch petrol lawnmowers and Bosch electric lawnmowers. This particular model is slightly larger than the Bosch Rotak 32R as it has a 34 cm cutting width instead of a 32 cm one. A good rear roller will be on the heavier side, so a lawnmower with an integrated rear roller will tend to be a bit heavier than other models.

We wouldn’t recommend it for extremely uneven gardens though – in this case you might be better with a hover mower. Bosch has been quite successful in making this mower easy to use, no matter how much mowing experience you have.You can quickly swap between the settings using the lever on the top of the cutting deck, which is notable improvement over other models such as the Rotak 32R, which needs to be turned over to access the height adjuster. We assess how full the grass collector becomes before it needs to be emptied and how often we have to empty it to complete our cutting tests. So you’ll probably still need either a set of manual edging shears or a string trimmer to tidy up the sides, just to be safe. This lever is at the front of the mower rather than at the side, although we don’t think there is much different in the positioning – at worst you only need to move an extra step or two to reach it. It’s a good idea to get someone else to help you with assembly, otherwise it might take up to 30 minutes before you’re able to begin mowing.
