When Robert implies that Heidi asked Auden to visit to be a babysitter, Heidi states she invited her so Robert could spend time with his daughters. A large majority of the criticism towards the film is from reviewers claiming that the film is a dumbed down version of Dessens novel, while others claimed the film was cheesy but had compelling and emotional moments with great performances by the actors. When her mom shows up to help, she bikes down to the boardwalk and runs into Eli, who tells her that he turned her down to compete in one final BMX contest. She bikes with him to the beach, their friends join them also dressed for the prom, and they have an impromptu party.

In the Netflix version, it happens after a "hot-dog party" and food fight, when Auden, Eli, and their friends run into the ocean for a night swim (very efficiently knocking three items off of Auden's quest list). But then Jason flakes out on her at the last minute, and Auden decides to ask Eli — and then he turns her down. She's snooty and judgmental when she visits Auden at the boutique but quickly comes to the rescue when Heidi crumbles under the pressure of new motherhood, encouraging her to stand up to Robert and giving tips on taking care of Thisbe. someone a little more scattered, more unpredictable and passionate, where the voice and the story wouldn't tie up in a neat bow.SARAH, staying awake all night and sleeping through most of the day doesn't make you an insomniac, it makes you nocturnal. Which brings me to the characterization: Sarah Dessen is quite accomplished at possibly every facet of writing and storytelling, but I believe her true forte is her characters. Auden finally agrees to meet with Jason, who asks her to be his date to the Beach Bash as a redo, and she accepts. I believe there are three books that have been chosen, but Along For The Ride will be coming out first.

In summary, this wasn't necessarily my favourite Sarah Dessen book, but I really enjoyed it and would most certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a summery contemporary romance that packs a punch.
