You'll find no flash card slot here, but otherwise the Acer wins points for ports, especially an HDMI port on the left flank so you needn't fuss with a USB-C DisplayPort adapter to connect an external monitor. This Chromebook's 2-in-1 design matches any Windows machine for style, with an appealing all-aluminum chassis and a sharp 14-inch touch screen that looks pleasing as both a laptop and a tablet. In my hands-on time, the battery paces for closer to 7 hours with the screen at about 65% brightness. But if you don’t need to run Windows apps and you’re fully signed up to the Google ecosystem, those are ultimately moot points. A brushed metal finish on the lid makes it feel more premium, and that aluminium alloy chassis is solid throughout.

Ports-wise, we’re talking USB-C on each side of the chassis, both of which support charging and video out, a USB-A socket, headphone jack and a microSD card reader.There's a pleasing near-symmetry to the setup of the ports too, so using them is neat and tidy and allows you to plug in what you need and keep the cables and dongles out of the way. While most Chromebooks are plastic and feel disposable, the aluminum Acer notebook feels solid and reliable, and its brushed metal lid looks like it belongs on a more expensive notebook.
