About this deal

No one writes crime novels like Belinda Bauer, with a rare blend of darkness, humour and heart. She's a crime writing genius.' C. L. TAYLOR There's a very serious storyline running through the book of survival and family loyalty, realistic, emotional but dark and dangerous with a hint of humour that has fast become a trademark of Belinda Bauer's work. I truly loved it and couldn't stop reading, I was just so enthralled. The abalone was a turbulent storm cloud, captured and tamed by the smooth, warm handle that fitted his palm like magic. He touched his thumb to the diamond stud and the knife seemed to open itself! Seemed to know that he wanted it open, and obliged before he’d exerted any noticeable pressure. No hesitation. No notches. No friction. The blade sprang open like a living thing, alert to his every wish. Serrated on one edge, curved on the other to a cruel point. I can’t begin to describe how much I love Belinda Bauer’s work. Every book is better than the last and this one was truly extraordinary. While on the surface a psychological thriller, it really is so much more. Bauer writes her characters with such nuanced perfection that the reader experiences numerous reactions to them all. I don’t want to give any spoilers away but I will be recommending this book to everyone, whether they like thrillers or not.” —Linda Quinn, Fairfield Public Library

I trained and evaluated SNAP in four genomes (see Methods) and compared its performance to Genscan in all genomes, to HMMGene [ 12] and Genefinder [ 14] in C. elegans, and to Augustus [ 15] in D. melanogaster. Genscan performs as well as recent gene finders designed specifically for Arabidopsis [ 16], was considered one of the standards for the Drosophila GASP experiments [ 3], and is one of the gene finders used by the International Rice Genome Sequencing Project [ 17]. HMMGene and Genefinder are well-established gene prediction programs for C. elegans. Augustus is one of the latest gene prediction programs and has been shown to outperform Genscan, GENIE, and GENEID in Drosophila.

What wife does that?? Every wife I know -including myself - would never keep a secret from my husband that a knife was found near my bed with a note saying.”I could have killed you”. The state diagram is fixed in Genscan but is read from a parameter file in SNAP. This allows one to change the HMM to describe a variety of genomic features. The simplest state diagram for predicting single- and multi-exon genes is shown in figure 1. Sakata K, Nagamura Y, Numa H, Antonio BA, Nagasaki H, Idonuma A, Watanabe W, Shimizu Y, Horiuchi I, Matsumoto T, Sasaki T, Higo K: RiceGAAS: an automated annotation system and database for rice genome sequence. Nucleic Acids Res 2002, 30: 98–102. 10.1093/nar/30.1.98 I adored this book and how it was written. There are no fancy frills or poetic moments here (except maybe for poetic justice, if that counts) – and yet my thoughts, feelings, and imagination were all held captive until the very end. Snapdragon by Kat Leyh is a graphic novel bubbling with energy and magic. And friendship! I loved these characters and the bonds they formed. The connections we find in ourselves and others are what make our days special in this world. Discovering who we are AND people to support and surround us is the light in the sky, the sparkle in the glitter, and the joy of it all! Snap learns that and so much more when she comes face to face with the town witch, a woman rumored to have fed her eye to the devil and casts spells with bones from the animals she eats. Is there any truth in the rumors? Read and find out!

This was an audio book I listened to, think I'm getting better at these. The narrator was Andrew Wincott, and I thought he did a wonderful job. Maybe I'm better with male narrators?Belinda Bauer is one of the very few really original crime writers of our time . . . The plot is neat and clever, but it is not the stories, the style or the characters alone - though all are good - that set Bauer's work apart. It is an indefinable extra ingredient that makes some books stand out from the crowd. This is one of them. Literary Review Boeddrich A, Burgtorf C, Francis F, Hennig S, Panopoulou G, Steffens C, Borzym K, Lehrach H: Sequence analysis of an amphioxus cosmid containing a gene homologous to members of the aldo-keto reductase gene superfamily. Gene 1999, 16: 207–214. 10.1016/S0378-1119(99)00079-7 If you're expecting a thriller with massive twists/turns then I wouldn't count on that. Bauer focuses more on a deeper look into the characters in this thriller/suspense. Snap reveals a story focused on a family that has been dealt a raw hand of murder in their lives. The story slowly reveals how one family has coped with the aftermath of a murder.

The colours and artwork in this was so well done. I loved how bright it was in some places, but then switched to dark and gloomy depending on what was happening in the plot. The facial expressions on the characters are great and really get their feelings across in the moment. I went into this not really knowing what to expect and it completely blew me away. This book is incredibly diverse and raises interesting thoughts about determining who we are as individuals. Belinda Bauer's fiction teems with life . . . Kate Atkinson used to be the undisputed master of this sort of mixture of the serious, the exciting and the anarchic, but Bauer is now firmly in her class.' Daily Telegraph Leyh skillfully balances magic and realism...readers familiar with Leyh’s work in the Lumberjanes series will recognize her bouncy, dynamic art and figures that are nearly always in motion, keeping the energy high and the tone lively."— The Bulletin of the Center for Children's BooksDS Reynolds is eager to make a good impression on his new boss. He’s a fastidious, impeccably groomed straight arrow who’s always willing to help coworkers better themselves. Whether it’s tips on deportment or correcting their grammar, he knows deep down they appreciate his attention to detail. So why does the new DCI seem to hate him? However, in regards to the plot, I wanted more about the magic. Since this is a book about a witch, naturally there is magic, but it was a little vague on how it all worked. I would have loved to seen it explored in more detail.

A little later, Catherine is queasy as she stares down at her tummy: “Because for the first time, alongside their precious child, grew a tiny seed of doubt.”Yeah- yeah.... I know how did they not get caught by social services- and support themselves to boot? It’s believable ‘enough’ to put the readers mind at rest -( but shhh... we know much of this isn’t likely).... Snap is the best kind of crime novel. It gives you chills, it makes you think and it touches your heart. I loved it!' SARAH PINBOROUGH, No.1 bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes Three years later, Catherine, a young pregnant woman, wakes to find a knife laying alongside her in her bedroom. A note scratched on torn paper states: "I could have killed you." Afraid to tell her husband who's on a business trip, Catherine refuses to devulge strange happenings in their home with break-ins. Someone is lurking outside and they've now been in. She won't even go to the police. Catherine has more than raging hormones to deal with.
