About this deal

One of the best PS1 emulators - especially as a standalone emulator or pre-Beetle HW. It is also capable of enhancing the PS1 experience but is not as feature-ridden as Beetle HW. There isn’t any point to use this emulator over Beetle HW anymore in most terms. a b c d e f McGee, Maxwell (March 5, 2012). "Silent Hill HD Collection Review". GameSpot. Archived from the original on March 3, 2014 . Retrieved February 5, 2014. The other game considered abandonware. Unfortunately, it hasn’t received an enhanced edition yet. But two well-running fan patches making this game a good experience while improving the once XBox port.

Yet again you may want to consider emulating the PS2 version of this game instead due to the current buggy’ish state of the game and its fan patches. Just google a bit and you should come up with places like CoolROM. wowROM, or EmulatorGames. What you want is an ISO file which is a binary dump of your game disc. The perfect legal solution would be to put your game disc into your disc drive and dump it yourself using ImgBurn or some other programs doing the job for you. a b "Silent Hill: HD Edition" (in Japanese). It was built specifically for the then-current console generation, and offers a decently engaging, somewhat modernised spin on the series' core formula. It manages a handful of memorably unnerving set-piece moments, but it does feel rather too in awe of its forebears to find its own voice, and suffers as a result. At least Konami's continued attempts to develop the series in the west did eventually give us the marvellously idiosyncratic Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. The original Silent Hill games ran on hardware that didn't enjoy the benefits of hardware anti-aliasing and it appears that Hijinx hasn't made any effort to introduce it here. Resolution is confirmed at native 720p, but there's no evidence of any edge-smoothing as such. It's more than a little disappointing when directly compared with Bluepoint's work on the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, where both MGS2 and its sequel flowed smoothly at 60 frames per second with multi-sampling anti-aliasing adding greatly to the quality of the overall presentation. Basically, libretro is a library of information and instructions on how to load emulation cores. This comes from the Unix ecosystem. The Windows counterpart would be a dll file. Naturally, both titles have aged. The loose combat system and sometimes excruciatingly slow place are things modern videogames would struggle to get away with. The controls are as dodgy as ever, even when switching over to the criminally underutilized “2D controls” that simulate modern analog movement, and the menu system is needlessly fiddly. Nevertheless, I can still play and adore these games today and remain thoroughly absorbed in a pair of gorgeously grotesque titles, the likes of which have not been seen before or since. Dutton, Fred (March 23, 2012). "Original Silent Hill developer disappointed at "poor" HD re-release". Eurogamer. Archived from the original on October 21, 2019 . Retrieved October 25, 2019. EDIT: As noted in the comments, it seems that PS2 originals are currently a lot easier to find than they were when I last tried to replace my copy of Silent Hill 2 - although you'll obviously also need an appropriate way to play the game once you've bought it). This is the only game that offers a fully-fledged fan patch which makes it on par and even enhances it beyond the PlayStation 2 version. At this point, it has become the definitive version of experiencing the game over any emulation. Native gameplay on CRT can still be seen as superior by traditionalists. But for almost everyone else this should be the version to play nowadays.Digital Foundry exhaustively summarised the Silent Hill HD Collection's shortcomings at the time of release - but perhaps all you really need to know is that, in a series best remembered for its iconic, fog-shrouded streets, the remasters didn't even get the fog right. That said, original PS2 versions of both games are somewhat harder to come by these days, so there are limited official alternatives if you want to experience these two highlights of horror gaming.
