About this deal

My first run in the shoe actually felt refreshingly light as I had been running in Gaviota 3. I ran some fast-paced intervals amid traces of melting snow from spring!

Saucony’s Guide 14 is .8 oz. / 23 g. lighter than Hurricane 22 in women’s size 9.5. Both shoes have an 8 mm. drop. Saucony’s PWRRUN midsole is the same cushion used in the lightweight Kinvara 12 and stable Guide 14, where it’s proven to be lightweight and springy. It’s no different in the Ride, reviewers say. The new Ride has just the right amount of flexibility for me,” one reviewer says. “So far, this version has a durable feel and I expect to get a lot of miles out of it this year.”

But, if you’re a fan of the Guide line, you’ll get the same reliable stability. Flat- feeling transition, but oh, the upper feels so cozy, even miles into the run. The 14 has a slightly different look this year, offering a bit more cushion to the tongue yet less around the heel than in the past, with more reflective material added to a similar-looking upper.

The new Ride 14 looks and feels sportier than the 13,” one reviewer says. “It's protective enough for big training cycles, but the sleeker look and nimble feel give it serious versatility. Those funky colors don't hurt, either.”At 8.4 oz (238 g), it's more than an ounce lighter than most daily trainers with an average weight of 9.9 oz (281 g). This said the brand stays true to its promise. Once the foam is exposed to cold (like spending 20 minutes in the freezer), it becomes 26.7% stiffer.

Personal: A (Nothing overly fancy, in all of the right ways possible, this is a consistent riding shoe that will deliver for many miles) The Saucony Ride has always been one of the most consistent trainers from update to update. Each Ride had a very similar feel to its predecessor: versions had minor incremental changes and consistency was what the Ride was known for. From the ground up, the Saucony Ride 15 has been reworked to take comfort up a notch and strip down the weight (1.7 oz / 48 g lighter). It has: There is no shifting and sliding around with the gusseted tongue of the Ride 15. In addition, it's padded enough (4 mm) to prevent the shoe's rather rough laces from digging into the skin. Performance: B+ (Slightly softer ride. Really smooth forefoot, heel still a little clunky during warm up)The Ride’s upper has such a cozy feel,” she says. “The tongue is padded and cushy on the top of my foot, and the heel collar conforms to my foot perfectly.” The wide opening is easy to slide your foot into, and the narrower heel feels very secure,” one reviewer says. “When I cinch the laces down, my foot doesn’t budge. It fits my foot really well.” The feathery feel complements the moderately firm cushioning for a ride that can handle any type of run. Designers trimmed a bit of weight from the shoe, too, but it was already a lightweight trainer, so you probably won’t notice much of a difference. For a neutral shoe, the Saucony Ride really impressed us with its steady platform. We believe that it comes from the combination of the midsole shape, the foam firmness, and the fact that our heels sit deeper inside the shoe.

Guide 14 jumped out of the box with a look that matched its later ride; “Hi, I’m a standard shoe of quality build, a bit old fashioned in technology (medial post; I’m lookin’ at you). Since you ran in 90’s Gel-Kayanos for years; I’ll feel like home.”

This shoe is lighter than Gaviota, yet I rated the latter higher as it is a pointedly solid shoe with a stand-out midsole that is soft yet supportive. Visually, it looks bulky with its maxed-out cushion. But in hand and on foot, the Saucony Ride 15 is strikingly light. Designers wrapped the Ride 14 in a lightweight mesh upper for breathable performance. The upper is seamless inside and out, which gives it a sleek look and mitigates the chance of rubbing or chafing. Just as Hurricane is in line with Brooks’ Transcend, so Guide is compatible with Brooks Adrenaline.
