About this deal

Scrubbing the teeth hard and fast doesn’t clean them any better. Long term it will actually damage them. It's common knowledge these days, but everyone is recommended to spend two full minutes cleaning their teeth. As a nod to this, the Oral-B Pro 2 2500 provides an audible warning via a slight pause in the brush motor every 30 seconds. This acts as a cue during brushing for you to change your focus between the four different quadrants in your gob: upper right, upper left, lower right and lower left. It’s a nice touch that works really well. That doesn’t mean there are any reasons for concern. Oral-B have a longstanding history of toothbrush production and know the areas of weakness and have done what they can to mitigate issues. The blue bristles within the head will fade over time to a pale blue/translucent colour. This is a cue for you to change.

If your toothbrush of choice is currently a manual brush you will really see and feel the difference should you switch. Battery life isn’t up there with some Sonicare models – you’re looking at a recharge roughly every three weeks – but if you want the latest and greatest toothbrush tech for less, there’s no better buy. The case is a rounded rectangle shape, hinged on the left side like a book, with a clip on the right side to secure the case closed.

In toothbrushes it seems the new modern tech way is the best/better… Some things like shaving are better the old school way (safety razor wet shaving). My opinion. The first thing we should note about the Pro 2 2500’s cleaning performance is its “Sensitive mode” which can be accessed by double pressing the on button. This actions the motor to deliver fewer movements per second to the brush head, offering a far less intensive brushing experience. This is ideal if you have sensitive teeth and gums, or would like to prevent your gum line from receding. The UK equivalent of the 750, was the Oral-B Pro 650. That was until this new Pro 1 750 was launched. Note the extra ‘1’ in the model name. Protruding from the body, the power button is easy for the fingertip to detect. You do need to give it a fairly firm push, so those with dexterity issues might find it a bit more challenging.

With some variants you will get a design printed on the case. This is a leafy pattern and is typically pink or blue in colour. It makes the case stand out a little more and be a little less boring. The size of Oral-B’s round brush head is something many users come to really like. Smaller than most, it is able to reach tighter spaces in the mouth and gives a satisfying clean. It can feel more intense and almost aggressive compared to the softer brushing sensation you might get with the likes of a Philips Sonicare toothbrush. The differences aside from the name relate to the colour of the grip on the brush handle, the brush head supplied in the box and the pattern printed on the travel case. Oral-B has for many years built pressure sensors into their toothbrushes and the Pro 1 is no exception, but the configuration here isn’t optimum.

At the top of the handle is a metal shaft that extends from the motor inside the handle. It is to this that the brush head fits. You can switch between them by pressing the firm, but responsive power button on the front of the handle multiple times. For example, 3 times if you want whitening mode. No icons to show the cleaning mode selected on the Pro 1 (brush in the centre) To activate it, a single press on the power button is all that is needed. There are no other modes, so a second press on the power button will turn the brush off.Unfortunately, but not surprisingly it has not been designed to be easily repaired by yourself. Trying to replace parts like the battery will likely break the brush. This makes it more likely to be discarded rather than repaired if broken.

There is a single button on the front of the brush handle, that stands out because it is white in colour. It has a convex design, and it slightly recessed into the handle. It is not the stiffest button to press, but it is not the softest either. There is a bit of resistance to it. What this all means is that it cleans the teeth really well, particularly if you make sure you are using the correct toothbrushing technique. One advantage buying Oral-B is that you can use all tooth brush head models on every tooth brush. Also the added 3rd year warranty is a great bonus ! Last but not least the Li-Ion batteries in an entry level device are hard to beat but remember that Philips Sonicare already had them for years. The Pro 1 has a handle design pretty much identical to the Pro 3 which has been available for at least a year prior. We previously had a Oral-B Professional Care 3000 but after two years the Ni-MH batteries where very bad so I got new ones under warranty. Now two years later I am happy to see that Oral-B use Li-Ion batteries which have such a better life. This is the only mode/function button. It turns the brush on and off. It doesn’t change the cleaning modes, because there is only the 1 mode.
