If that had been all, I probably would have still scored this a bit higher. But then there was all the times - in the first half - that I was pulled out of the story with irritation over some sexist, slut-shaming, or woman-bashing comment. It wouldn't have been so bad if there'd been some calling out on this sort of behavior and thoughts, but there wasn't. It was said, it was laughed about or brushed off, or just a normal part of conversation, and then it was over. I know these comments ("bros before hos," "she's a slut,") happen in real-life, a lot, but I'd have liked to see a bit better from my heroes, maybe just someone saying 'hey, that's not cool. Happily, after the half-way mark these sorts of things eased up. I was loving the POC representation. The heroine is half white half Singaporean. Subjects of racism, discrimination and everyday struggles of mixed/asian people in America were discussed in this book. We also got to have a peek into the heroine's culture. King takes a generally harmless trait – being a bookworm – and makes it bloodcurdling. Annie Wilkes imprisons and tortures an author, hoping to create a better end for her favourite heroine. There’s a slyness to King’s portrait of Annie; most of us have obsessed over a beloved character, and authors wield a special power over our emotional lives. At the same time, readers’ expectations hold sway over authors – King was partially inspired to write Misery by his fans’ vocal outcry when he attempted a genre other than horror. The love interest was promising, until he started bossing her around, verbally abusing her and being a total a-hole to her at times because she needed to "get over it". This is Amanda Robson's phenomenal debut novel. It was the #1 e-book all summer in the U.K., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. The US publication is scheduled for September 19, 2017.

Look at the thoughtfulness. It's a good thing she attracted his attention first and he took that video to manipulate her with. A gripping blend of memoir, investigation and expert analysis, Obsession takes a deep dive into the disturbing phenomenon of stalking.

How to Vote

Nicole takes us through what one could only imagine, a brief insight to being stalked, the fear and anxiety of not knowing what's coming for you or your family. This book does contain some very sensitive subjects and lots of sexual themes so approach with caution! This is a brilliant, chilling, yet ultimately hopeful book. Part memoir, part investigative journalism, Obsession is an in-depth exploration of stalking. I think one reason for that is that it is not your typical stalker book. Logan is indeed obsessed with Dee but there are so many other dynamics at play in this book. I read it in one sitting.

Nicole Madigan is a victim-survivor, and this is a recount of the suffering and torment she endured at the hands of a bitter and twisted person. Obsession is a beautifully written story that explores a traumatic subject with grace, dignity, honesty, vulnerability and a determination for change. The drama between these two couples: Carly and Rob, and Jenni and Craig, is absolutely ridiculous. I understand that Carly has been made to have depression and paranoia, but I'm curious as to why Jenni was never diagnosed with anything. These women were pretty ruthless towards one another, and their husbands were complete idiots. I pretty much hated every single character in this book, with the exception of the children. They didn't do anything. Once again, only the children are innocent in a book like this. This story was part Memoir and part Investigative Analysis on the subject of Stalking which featured Nicole's own distressing experience as well as the Psychoanalysis of it and the subsequent investigation into the processes and the effects on people who have been exposed to it.

Heat level: Mild. They have some tension and a few scenes -- but not super descriptive and not very many scenes to where it takes away from the story. While the first put me in killer mode, where I wanted to torture her father to death (a very slow one, though!), the next parts were beautiful! All in all, this was a great read, Nora Roberts did a fantastic job on the suspense element, but I had an inkling of the identity of the perpetrator. Even so I think fans of Nora Roberts will enjoy this story of mystery, intrigue, and romance. My only complaint is that there was NO epilogue, which reflects in my rating, had we had an epilogue this definitely would have been a 5 Star read for me!!The very first paragraph of Nabokov’s controversial novel revels in the narrator’s all-consuming obsession: Humbert Humbert rhapsodises about Lolita’s name, each syllable as meaningful and intricate as a poem. The fact that Lolita is a 12-year-old is disturbing, and yet Humbert’s liveliness pulls the reader in, making you feel uncomfortably complicit. Lolita herself is nearly unknowable, totally warped by the lens of Humbert’s obsession. Now the idea of a manly man working as a mechanic, driving a beloved car, wasn't exactly sexist, but just too boringly overdone. Frat parties are basically a cesspool of horny guys drunk on privilege and booze trying to get girls dead-drunk so they can take advantage of them. I mean, sure, that’s a stereotype, and I’m sure some frat parties are nice and some frat guys respect women or whatever, but this guy is asking a high school girl to come on her own to a place where she’ll be completely surrounded by his friends. I don’t think you should go. Not without a shitload of pepper spray and a couple of Tasers.”
