About this deal

If you're using a mitre saw, simply set it to 45° degrees and make the cut. Make sure you're cutting the correct end and in the correct direction as it's easy to make a mistake! A mitre saw is certainly the most effective way to cut skirting boards, and can be set to a multitude of different angles, so if you have any areas of skirting board which aren't 45° angles, such as in a bay window, you can still cut with ease. Top Tip: Although we assume that all room corners are 90 degree angles, in reality this is not always the case and measuring corner angles is an important part of fitting skirting so don’t skip this step! There are various adhesives available to fit Orac skirting boards. You will need two adhesives to attach your skirting boards – one to fix the skirting boards to the walls, and one to join two skirting boards together e.g. for joints and corners. There are various mitre saw options including using a mitre box and a panel saw, a precision mitre saw, or an electric compound mitre saw.

Cutting Skirting Boards: How to Master Mitre Cuts at Corners

In short - this simply involves drawing a guide on the skirting and then using a hand saw to follow the guide and make the cut. If you have access to one, a table saw would be the perfect tool for straight cuts. However, you'll need to make sure that the table saw is hooked up to an adequate dust extraction system. Straight Cuts To make it a little easier, make sure you cut the wood at an angle and in a continuous motion. This helps to keep the cutting line clear of dust and reduces the heat on the blade to prolong its lifespan. When pressing the skirting board against the wall, you will notice that some of the adhesive may spill out of the top and out of any joints. Don’t be alarmed. This is normal. Clean away any overspill with a spatula or damp cloth to ensure a clean finish. You may need to repeat this again after a few hours. Cut this mitre too, and fix into place as before, finishing with decorator's caulk or a fine filler. What's the Best Way of Cutting Skirting Boards?

Using an adhesive and nail gun, fit the skirting boards in place. Sand away any rough wood before, or when in place. You can then fill the (hopefully) minor gap in the mitre with a decorators caulk or using a fine wood filler before sanding down, priming and painting the skirting boards. How to Cut Internal Corners for Skirting Boards We get lots of questions asking how to mitre skirting boards and in fact this is one of the simplest joins used to fit skirting boards, so DIY-ers should not be put off. In this guide we are going to cover what tools you will need and explain step by step how cut a mitre joint. Be careful here, as the wrong angle means the skirting board might be unusable. Step five: Make the cut
